Anyone applying to Yale GEPN program for Fall 2009?

Published

Hi,

Since there was a very extensive thread last year about application process to Yale, I thought I would start a new thread for 2009 hopefuls. I am working on my application and wanted to know who else chose Yale as one of their options. What program? How is the application process going? Essay writing? Any anxieties? I am applying to the Adult Advanced Practice Nursing but still deciding on the specialty. The hardest part for me is the essay writing as English is not my first language, but I have been working on it for some time now and getting close to finishing the final version. Anyone else wants to share?

Thanks for the confirmation Lars23, and congratulations to you too! Are you definitely going to Yale?

If someone is going to call to find out their status, will you post whether they told you? My mail wont come till 4pm tomorrow and that means loosing another day of writing to worrying.

Elizabeth83 called earlier today and they said they can't give results over the phone.

Well, I don't know what mail holiday you guys are having in the States, but I live in Quebec and I just received my letter - in for FNP!

I'm kind of leaning towards not going to Yale (not enough flexibility and really didn't care for New Haven), but part of me is drawn to it because the students and the faculty seemed so great. Time to add another column to my pro/con list making...

Congrats to all who have heard, good luck to those still waiting!

thanks so much for all of you who have responded to me. It really means a lot that you guys are taking the time to help me with this difficult decision. Good luck to you all.

Hey let us know what you decide to do. ok. Good Luck to you as well.

So, I think I have a different perspective on the Yale/Sammuel Meritt question. I chose my grad school based on the prestige. To be fair, Yale's prestige in nursing is well earned. At the interview, I never felt like they were leaning on the Yale name, though it is impressive. They seemed to have really earned the reputation for a strong committed program. That all said, I agree that a degree is a degree in almost all respects. Especially in nursing I think you build your practice. Could the Yale degree help on that first interview? Sure. That said, there are so many things that go into a job placement. The Yale name could be offset by a great letter of rec from someone at Samuel Meritt who is known around the Bay area. I would suggest that you not sacrifice too much quality of education but that you also trust your gut. If you feel really good in SF, you don't need to belittle that as a real issue for you. None of us are right out of high school and few of us are right out of college. You're changing careers because you think you would be happier doing something else and we all know that happiness has many dimensions. I would hate to see anyone trade off one dimension for another. Don't know if this will help, but it was on my mind and thought I would share.

Thanks for the confirmation Lars23, and congratulations to you too! Are you definitely going to Yale?

I think I'm actually leaning toward JHU at this point because of several reasons -- but I'm going to go to their accepted students day at the end of the month and hopefully this will help me make a decision, as I'm still considering Yale!!

when is visiting day? was it in the letter? my letters at home and i'm currently at work...thankss!

Oh I'm sorry! I meant Hopkins' visiting day, which is Feb 27.

Hi all--

Got my letter Saturday--I'm in for peds! Congrats to all on your good news.

Is anyone going to be trying to make the decision between Yale and UCSF? I know those decisions won't be mailed until 3/2, but as that's close to Yale's deposit deadline I've been trying to think about what it might be like to decide between them. They're both such fantastic programs, but really different in how they're set up. I'd love to hear thoughts from others who might be needing to decide...

All that aside, though--it feels so good to know that this nursing thing is really going to happen!

Can anyone send the link to the Yale NP forum. I seem to have deleted the email with it and cant get back on. Thanks for the help!
