Hi,
Since there was a very extensive thread last year about application process to Yale, I thought I would start a new thread for 2009 hopefuls. I am working on my application and wanted to know who else chose Yale as one of their options. What program? How is the application process going? Essay writing? Any anxieties? I am applying to the Adult Advanced Practice Nursing but still deciding on the specialty. The hardest part for me is the essay writing as English is not my first language, but I have been working on it for some time now and getting close to finishing the final version. Anyone else wants to share?
Hmmm... most loan forgiveness programs have strings attached to them, like working in underserved areas or specific facilities already identified by the program.
Actually go to the link below and you will see what I am talking about. I am not talking about the Health Corp program. It seems like if some of us end up working for "Public service jobs include, among other positions, government, military service, public safety and law enforcement (police and fire), public health, public education, public early childhood education, public child care, social work in a public child or family service agency, public services for individuals with disabilities or the elderly, public interest legal services (including prosecutors, public defenders and legal advocacy in low-income communities), public librarians, school librarians and other school-based services, and employees of tax exempt 501©(3) organizations. Full-time faculty at tribal colleges and universities, as well as faculty teaching in high-need areas, also qualify", the loan will be forgiven.
The YSN Financial AID website states that the Perkin Loan will be forgiven for nurses after five years of employment.

I hope this was helpful.
Yes, I'm aware of the program but I'm not familiar with the specifics. I'm just not sure if that applies to nurses (like myself) that hope to work in private practice as CNM's or NP's, etc. Do you plan on working for a hospital or do you plan on working in private practice? Do you know if it matters for this program? This is something I'm going to have to make sure to ask when I visit for my interview.
mm.. I am not sure it seems like it is for the public sector. But it does say that "employees of tax exempt 501©(3) organizations" I don't know what that means either. I guess if you are working for the private sector and your employer has that then you will be qualify. Actually, I don't know where I want to work yet. I will wait to see what offers I get in my senior year from prospective employers. I don't intend to tie myself to any program that will pay for my tuition at the moment. I really want to live my options open. Some employers even have tuition reimbursements like the Yale New Haven Hospital.
Two questions:1. Has anyone who asked about staying with a student heard more about that? I haven't heard back yet and so I'm thinking I might stay in a hotel...
2. Do we include our parent's info on the FAFSA?
The New Haven Hotel is somewhat close by YSN. My brother came to my defense in Dec. and they charged him 99 $ for the night. I will be walking to my interview which is five minute walking distance and the hotel is like 2 block away from my house. I wish I had a spare bedroom but i don't and most YSN students probably Don't either. Maybe that is why their response is slowwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
Hi, this is my first time on this forum; should have checked this out sooner as the Yale forum is slow going!
I'm from Seattle & applied for Adult NP/Women's Health. My interview is scheduled the 23rd at 3 pm, which I noticed coincides with someone else's on here (can't remember who...). This will be my first real visit to the east coast, and I am flying into DC for the inauguration & visit friends, and then a visit to Johns Hopkins. May try to swing a visit to Columbia as well, but don't know if it will work out timewise. Also applied to Emory, in Atlanta. Anyone else applied to Emory?
Also, will there be anyone else coming in from the DC area? I'm planning on the Bolt bus to NYC, then train to New Haven. I fly out of New Haven the 24th, so hope to have dinner and debrief with whoever will still be around!
I too have yet to hear back re a potential stay with a student, though Sandra has put my name out there. I plan to email her again this week, but I suspect the delay has something to with the holidays. I've been waiting to book a hotel, cuz don't know if I'll need it for 2 nights or just one!
Has there been any talk of people sharing a hotel room to decrease costs?
Yes, financial aid covers living expenses. You won't live a luxurious life, but you'll have a roof and food to eat.
And, it's not 60K x 3. The first year is the most expensive because of the added Summer fees. And, you're not obligated to take all the aid offered to you. The tuition and fees are spelled out here: http://nursing.yale.edu/Admissions/fees.html
Good luck all.
http://nursing.yale.edu/Admissions/finaidForms.htmlI was wondering about what their financial aid package look like. I wonder if it also includes room and board besides tuition and fees. I calculate that I will need to borrow at least 60k for the first year. 45k for tuition and fees alone.
Here is a website with scholarship info.

I am concerned about this as well...Imagine 60k X 3 years! That's a lot of loans, especially for our future earning power.
