Anyone applying to Yale GEPN program for Fall 2009?

Published

Hi,

Since there was a very extensive thread last year about application process to Yale, I thought I would start a new thread for 2009 hopefuls. I am working on my application and wanted to know who else chose Yale as one of their options. What program? How is the application process going? Essay writing? Any anxieties? I am applying to the Adult Advanced Practice Nursing but still deciding on the specialty. The hardest part for me is the essay writing as English is not my first language, but I have been working on it for some time now and getting close to finishing the final version. Anyone else wants to share?

UCLABruin428 -- I will be there for my interview on the 20th but plan on leaving for a train (4:10 PM) as I live in DC. How are you preparing for your interview? Just curious! Thanks! :)

Hi CA to DC! I used to live in DC...I got my master's degree there! I am thinking about the Premiere Hotel and Suites. It got good reviews on Trip Advisor and has free shuttles to the airport, train station, and Yale. I haven't yet made reservations though. To prepare for the interview I have been reviewing my personal statement and doing practice interviews with friends and family to get used to answering the basic questions. Other than that I am just taking time to reflect over what a great opportunity this is!

Very cool! I am staying at the Marriot now b/c of its reviews on Trip Advisor too :) Thank you for the information on how you are preparing for the interview. Much appreciated!

Good luck on your interviews everyone! Please, report back about your experiences and impressions . Good news is that it will be sunny and relatively warm here in CT all week (no negative digits temperatures) and no snow!

I had my interview and orientation today. I got a really positive impression of the program and the faculty, it seems extremely well-organized and solid. Also, I got to meet a good number of the current students and they are all extremely nice and helpful - I think one of the biggest strengths Yale has is simply in how phenomenal of a student body they attract, being surrounded by so many smart, motivated people would definitely enhance the experience. My interviewer was also pretty approachable and nice, and most of the questions were pretty expected, like why this track, why not medicine, why Yale, etc.

I didn't have a spectacularly good impression of New Haven itself, though I do get the impression it has a disproportionate amount of amazing culture and restaurants for it's size which is a plus. I recommend taking a tour of the main campus too, just because it's pretty impressive.

Anyhow, those were my impressions, hope they are somewhat helpful, and good luck to all that have applied and those who have yet to do so! Just relax :)

I had my GEPN interview day yesterday (Wednesday, Jan. 21) and also got a really positive impression of the program, faculty, and current students. The actual interview portion wasn't bad -- pretty general questions like how I became interested in advanced practice nursing, why I was interested in Yale, etc. Nothing too unexpected. I would suggest that you do have a question or two prepared in case you are asked if you have questions about the school/program (that's actually how my interviewer opened up the interview).

Just FYI, word is that final admissions decisions will go out via snail mail sometime around February 13th. Come on, people -- is this not the age of email!? :typing Waiting for letters to arrive via regular mail is TORTURE.

Good luck, everyone!!

I had my interview today - I interviewed in the midwifery specialty. I also stayed with a host student the night before and it was great. Good luck to everyone!

I had my interview on Wednesday. My interviewer was so nice and informative and made me feel like I had at least a shot of getting in. It is an amazing school and New Haven is really really cool. It seemed like the students actually had a social life and were really tight. I just heard I got into BC which was a TOTAL surprise (seriously was not expecting that), but Yale is still my top school...but its still kinda nice to know that i'll end up somewhere next fall. I hope everyones interviews went well!!! Good luck to you alll!!!!!!!!

Hi all,

My experience was also a positive one. I really love the program. I wish everyone the best of luck!!!

Hey suga70,

Did you hear from BC via "snail mail" or e-mail?

Thanks!

PS - Congrats!

Hey Minnesota622!

Thanks! I totally heard via snail mail, haha. I live right outside of Boston which is probably why I heard so early. Did you apply to BC? Did anyone else apply to BC? I've heard really positive things about the program, but I'm still hoping for Yale! Has anyone gotten into any other programs yet? I hope you are all doing okay during this eternal waiting period! ahhhh why can't it just be January 15th!

I also had a great experience at Yale. The sessions were very informative and all my questions got answered. My interview went well, I think, and the program appears to be very organized. I did not get to meet any current students because it was clinicals day, so not many people were around. Those of you who got to meet them, what did you learn from them? I really liked the first session where we had a sample of teaching style of one of the professors. Overall I was very impressed and I am impatiently waiting for the admission decision... Good luck to all of you!
