Hi,
Since there was a very extensive thread last year about application process to Yale, I thought I would start a new thread for 2009 hopefuls. I am working on my application and wanted to know who else chose Yale as one of their options. What program? How is the application process going? Essay writing? Any anxieties? I am applying to the Adult Advanced Practice Nursing but still deciding on the specialty. The hardest part for me is the essay writing as English is not my first language, but I have been working on it for some time now and getting close to finishing the final version. Anyone else wants to share?
Is it just me? I know it is silly at this point, but can't help but replay the Yale interview over and over in my mind, and have been coming up with a million things I should have said. Ah, well. What's done is done, I suppose. I'm just having a much harder time with this waiting period than I thought I was going to. February 13th seems SOOOO far away. And with living in CA, the whole prospect of a "snail mail" admission notification is killing me!
Probably a stupid question, but I'll ask it anyway: does anyone know if the interview is the deciding factor (ie, we were all on an equal plane once we were granted an interview, and the interview was "make or break"), or whether it is just one more piece of the pie that, when taken alongside other factors like grades, experience, etc, will determine whether or not we are accepted?
Hang in there, everyone... I know I'm having a rough time doing that myself... :barf01:
It is just one piece of the pie. Angela did say in the closing statement that they will meet and analyze your entire package on Feb 9th. I am feeling very sick about this whole waiting period. I am extremely nervous. I have so much riding on this. Like you said whats done is done. Now we just have to wait for destiny to take its course. Try to occupy your time with movies or something like that. I have been answering questions on Yahoo. I have tried to level up that is how I am killing the time. It really help me to keep my mind off this whole process. Did you apply to other places and have you heard back from them? Good Luck ok.
WannabePNP, it is not just you. I have been replaying my interview and even having bad dreams about it. In my recent dream, my interviewer gives my application away for a review to another faculty member who decides that I am only minimally qualified to be an NP. Quite a nightmare. As to the interview, when I get nervous, I can't speak as coherently and eloquently as I would like to. And that is exactly what happened during my interview. I prepared prior to the interview but the words just wouldn't come out as planned. Well, it is out of my hands now. I am trying to keep busy and exercise more to keep my mind off of thinking about it. Unfortuantely it ain't working...
Just like yalienne, I also believe that it is the whole package. We had to submit a lot of materials with our application. I am sure they will review them carefully one more time before deciding.
Good luck. I am sure this thread will get revived as soon as February 13th rolls in...
ugh, i couldn't tell you guys what a relief it was to come and read your interview experiences! so similar to mine. i have also been having nightmares--i can't believe how hard i worked for that moment to come away looking (i'm afraid) unsteady and unsearched and way too nervous to say the right things. perhaps the way they conduct the interviews (objective criteria in a conversational framework) is fundamentally hard to really shine at? i guess it is yale, though.
my question: what's the exact timeline for admission? our apps are being considered the 9th, and then the answers out on the 13th? i saw that applicants got emails (?) last year--same thing this year, or only snail mail?
I second that - Angela did say that our interviewers were just writing up an evaluation, and then the evaluations were going with the rest of our portfolios (just a piece of the pie). I can also say I know exactly how you all feel - whenever I have to do a public presentation, interview, etc. my voice always gets all shaky and almost like vibrates, my face gets really hot, and my heart starts beating out of my chest; i just can't get across what I want to say or how I feel because of nerves - trust me, you were not the only ones to feel this way! The dean put it the best when she said that we were all qualified to be there, and if they don't pick us then its their fault. She also stressed that a lot of the people being interviewed are choosing between a number of schools, and that Yale is the one who should be persuading the student to come there. She even said that if Yale is really what you want, apply again, cuz you will probably eventually get in. Just know that you aren't alone and to even get an interview at Yale means your good enough in the first place! Also take into account that many people who interviewed are choosing between an array of schools. Many of the interviewees I talked to had 2 or 3 "top choices." Please try not to stress, I'm sure you all are brilliant, unique applicants! I know its so hard, but we should all try and think positive and immerse ourselves in work and leisure time until decisions go out! Good luck to you all!!!
Hi guys, any recommendation for a good online anatomy and physiology course.
If you don't really need to take these courses, I'd recommend saving your money and just spend some time with a basic physiology text (you could very likely borrow one from whichever university is closest to you), they are often very readable (I recommend Vander's Human Physiology). Also, you could check this site out, they seem to have a lot of great, free resources: http://freevideolectures.com/anatomy.html
If you need the grade though, University of Rochester has anatomy and physiology online - in my experience they tend to be decent if a little disorganized on an administrative level.
Also, check out these threads:

I graduated with a bachelors in business and psych. I do not have kids and am working full-time with a business consulting company while volunteering with a community clinic during my free time. I think Yale looks at the whole package and considers how well prepared you are for the rigor of the program as well.

oops, i meant February 15th in my last post...haha
I got to sit in with the Q&A during my interview day on the 21st. The students seemed very content with the program. I got the impression that they felt even though the work was challenging, it was very doable. They also seemed like a tight knit, supportive group. They also talked about housing. The students we met with all lived off campus. It seems like craigslist or the Yale website discussion boards were ways to get housing/roomates. Hope this helps? Does anyone have anything else to add from the 21st?
