Anyone applying to Yale GEPN program for Fall 2009?

Published

Hi,

Since there was a very extensive thread last year about application process to Yale, I thought I would start a new thread for 2009 hopefuls. I am working on my application and wanted to know who else chose Yale as one of their options. What program? How is the application process going? Essay writing? Any anxieties? I am applying to the Adult Advanced Practice Nursing but still deciding on the specialty. The hardest part for me is the essay writing as English is not my first language, but I have been working on it for some time now and getting close to finishing the final version. Anyone else wants to share?

I am also qualified for an interview and will leave the Bay Area on January 22nd. I will stay in New Haven for 2 days and will return hopefully on that Saturday.

I am excited to meet all of you there. Yale has a wonderful wonderful program:yeah:

Does it mean that your interview is on the 23rd? If yes, I will see you there. Which specialty are you applying for?

Indeed my interview is on the 23rd!:redbeathe I am on PNP track! What is your track? How are you preparing for your upcoming interview?

See you!

I am applying to Oncology Nurse Practitioner specialty. I am not quite sure how to prepare for the interview other than thinking of the standard questions: Why the NP program, not MD or PA? Why your specialty? Where you want to be in 5 years, etc. I guess it is hard to know as there are many interviewers and they have different styles. So I will try to look professional, sound confident and speak from the heart. And hope for the best...

Hi all!

I'll be coming for an interview on the 23rd for psychiatry. I'm planning on driving up the night before and sticking around after the interview to explore new haven. I'm be coming from brooklyn...any other nyc people apply? I'm originally from southern california but moved out here for school. Good luck at the interviews everyone!

Ahh its exciting to see more Providence people! :wink2: I've had internships at Hasbro Hospital and the Centers for Behavioral and Preventive Medicine down there. Miche, what kind of research are you doing at Brown? One of my psych professors was doing alcohol research at Brown since his wife is a PI over there. I have had good friends that had research internships at both Brown and Butler (I actually interviewed for a research assistant job at Butler last spring). Butler is a fabulous psych hospital, and I thought the main building/campus was beautiful. Are you enjoying your work there sprinklez? What kind of research are you working on? Now I'm doing clinical research in the Boston area, but I really do miss Federal Hill, Thayer St., basically just all the amazing food and resteraunts haha. I still go down there every so often to go out or meet up with some school friends. I'm enjoying Boston right now, but **hopefully** we all will be enjoying New Haven around this time next year :)

I'm working over in the Pathology lab that I interned in last summer. We're currently looking at the toxicology of nanomaterials which sounds a whole lot more interesting in theory than it actually is haha. i mainly went back there because they'd let me stay for only a year when most other tech positions require 2 years...i didn't want to wait that long to start the whole nursing thing!

To clear up two questions that seem to be coming up:

1. Private messaging is only available once you've posted enough times (I think the magic number is 15). If you can't do it yet, it's probably because you're too new. Once you can do it, you click the persons name and it's one of the options on the drop down. It drove me nuts at first too until I figured that out!

2. People are talking about the potluck because last year's thread talked a lot about it so we all assume a similar thing will happen this year. Hard to know though, since last year people also talked about an 'interview' rate with the Mariott which they clearly have not done this year.

Hope that helps. Good luck all and happy holidays!

Hey all! So I was confused about the potluck too. But when I emailed Sandra Esposito about confirming the interview, I asked her about when I can expect the day to be over, so I could plan my flight. She responded to me saying this: "Potluck is tentative for the night of the 20th. So, yes after 2:30 pm (interview) you are welcome to leave." (my interview is at 2:30 in case that's confusing for any of you). And my interview is on the 20th, but I'm going to make the assumption that they will have a potluck on all of the days? I don't know, that's just a guess on my part. Hope that clears it up a little (I don't think it does haha).

Thanks for the clarification.

I was curious what other schools everyone applied to?

What schools have you heard from & which is your top choice?

I applied to UCSF, Yale, Johns Hopkins, University of San Diego.

Interview (Yale)

Int-USD

nothing yet-UCSF

nothing yet-JHU

My top choice was UCSF because I live in SF and it's more "highly rated," but after getting the interview invite, I have been more pumped about Yale. But I don't want to get my hopes up! I read that 70% of us will get in.

I hope we all do. I think that the people who post on this msg board will probably get in because we are more obsessed than average!:D

I also applied to UCSF, Boston College, Columbia, University of Rochester, Seattle University, and Northeastern.

I got an interview at Yale, the others I'm waiting to hear from, BC and Columbia don't do interviews, U Roch interviews everyone (I've done 1:2 so far), and Seattle U I turned in recently so I'm not expecting to hear yet. I guess UCSF would be my top choice since I would love to go to SF as I've been trying to move out to Cali since high school. However, after reading other posts about them I'm not so sure they're necessarily the best, there seems to be a lot of discontent.

I'm really trying not to think too much about 'top choice' and that since at this point I'd just like to get in somewhere!

Hi Bidatheraptor,

I'm new here and was just curious about where you found the 70% statistic. I have been having trouble finding information about acceptance rates -- I've only found the number of spots available, not the actual number who are offered admission vs. number of applicants

Thanks and good luck to you all :)

I can confirm that Yale does NOT admit 70% of the applicants.
