Anyone Applying to Samuel Merritt ABSN April, May, June 2009?

Published

Is anyone else applying to ABSN at Merritt for Spring 2009. Let's post our experience the next 6 months here. I'm just getting started on my application due nov 1. Good luck.

Don't feel defeated. I have already received a rejection letter from their ELMSN program and since I haven't heard anything about the ABSN program I got another rejection or I am so far down on the waitlist they might as well just reject me. I am still moving forward I have planthis is just a speed bump, but eventually we will all get over it.

hi Kdbworkingmom,

you don't know how much I appreciate your kind thoughts. I haven't told my family yet or my boyfriend yet. It's enough to be upset about it because so much time and money has been put into it, but it feels worse when you have to tell your love ones about it. Anyhow, I can tell you an awesome person:) thanks. and I hope you get in!

I understand. My mom is a retired nurse and she has been asking me everyday have you heard, did you get in, whats going on. I have a husband and three kids and my oldest is 13. Telling him I was rejected wasn't easy but I am trying to show him you've got to go forward. I was really upset when I got the first rejection letter. I cried in the shower for about 5 min and then I realized I had to "man" up cause I didn't want my kids to see me like that. So I made myself get over it quick and think of Plan A, B, C and D. I've applied to so many programs its crazy the money spent on just transcripts alone but one way or another eventually I will become a nurse. Going through all of this has made me realize this is something I really want to do and so I guess that is a good thing. Anyway keep your head up and push forward. You are not alone.

hellophuo21,

don't worry about your prereqs. i am also taking pharm and path from indiana and nebraska. you just need to finish your prereqs by end of march 2009. SM made an exception since these are self-paced courses. i just barely started my patho and only halfway done w/ pharm. so, i hope you don't think you forked up all that money for nothing. they are ridicously expensive. anywhoo, i don't know if you live in SJ but if you want a study partner or if you don't mind sharing any notes about the class, feel free to contact me.

btw, don't worry about the waitlist, i'm sure you'll get in. application deadline isn't until november; they can't be making decisions that early.

I believe hellophuo21 is aiming for Spring 09. From what I've read on this forum, waitlist #3 for San Mateo doesn't look too bad. I guess hellophuo21 needs to talk to the school about getting some grace period for her last pre-req.

On another note, I'm almost done with my "writing samples." I still need to fill out the application forms, hoping to mail the whole thing out by the end of this week.

hi justwantabenuse,

thanks for the response. I would actually like to study with you but I don't live to near San Jose :(. I just study the syllabus for pathophysiology and not so much the book. The book sorta a waste of my money. If you want an A, study the book. But you can get a high B without it. How's pharmacology? is it harder? ohhhh I want to ask you how long do they take to mail you your test from the time you request it???. Is it possible to get one test in per 2 weeks? I really need to get it done by Dec. but the speed at which the course is completed is not solely dependent on my pace but more importantly how fast mail is deliever and recieve and how fast the teacher grades. Do you think it's possible to get this course done by Dec. if I just barely starteD?

email at [email protected] if you any questions on patho. I will gladly help:).

Do any of you know how competitive SMC is? Like, what is the average accepted GPA/science GPA? How many people apply vs. how many are accepted, in each program?

I'm all set to mail it out! Except the references...Is it a bad idea if they get there a little late? Also, I'm having a hard time. Everything else is k ok...my references are yuky! My summer A & P profs...that I got B's in, in a class of 120? I haven't asked them yet...but I hope they might have a generic they'll use for me. I asked the receptionist and she said a lot more is weighted on the NET and GPA. I don't have anyone else to ask, cuz I moved, and I'm a subsitute teacher, and I graduated college like 3 years ago. Anyone else in a dilemma about references like me?

There IS a BIG DIFFERENCE between SF and Oakland campuses. Don't let them lie to you. The SF campus sucks. You will regret it. The whole experience, as a matter of fact, sucks, and considering the economy and job prospects, accelerated may not be the way to go.

Oakland has better labs, community, library collection, etc., but the teachers are probably equal (good and bad) and the ADMINISTRATION figureheads---not the secs. but higher ups, are pretty much lame for the most part on BOTH campuses. They will lie to you and say your group is a bunch of complainers, but every group is just as unhappy as the first. They will lose your forms and charge/blame you for it. They will play with your lives at their every whim and then show no sympathy when you try and stand up for yourselves. It's a lose-lose situation. Please make this school your back up if anything. Be warned.
