I'm going to apply to ARC and Sac City this semester for the RN program. I've heard there are a lot of applicants for the program and it's difficult to get in. Just was wondering if you've applied to either of these programs and if you were accepted how many times it took you to get in?

I'm in my 4th semester at ARC and it took me 4 tries (semesters) to get in. Good luck to you!

It depends what you mean b hard to get in. There are always a lot of applications, yes. Both programs are lottery, but the lottery cut offs are not really very high. I believe you need an overall gpa of 2.5, and an overall 3.0 between three sciences (micro, A/P.) If you get in you only need a 67% TEAS-- (you take the teas after acceptance. ) Each term they accept some first-draw applicants and some returning-draw applicants, I think about 2/3 new applicants, 1/3 returning but I could have that backwards. I have applied to both but I certainly haven't got my hopes up, (because I don't like the odds, and don't want to be disappointed)-- ARC received over 1000 applicants last Fall, and there are not that many slots for first time applicants. I assume city received a similar number. Good luck--I hope for the best for both of us!
Hi Ismee, I was wondering how many first time applicants got in the program vs applying multiple times. Because I know both programs get a lot of applicants and its lottery based, so it seems the odds are stacked against you if you're applying the first time, like I am.
Thanks, Dannibee, for your response. 4 times is a long time to apply! Congrats to you that you got in the program and are almost finished.
A friend of mine is applying to both Sac City and ARC for her 3rd time. I'm hoping we'll both get in and get accepted to the same program!

Yikes, 1000 applicants! It's the lottery system that makes me hesitant to base my chances of becoming an RN on these programs. I'm currently at ARC, but I'm looking ALL over for a nursing program to get into. Just curious what your plan of action is if you don't get accepted on the first try? Would you wait for next time and work in the mean time or pick another school?
Hi Mochagirl26~ Yes, it's a LOT of applicants. And I know someone that will be applying to both programs for the 5th time! It can be depressing. What's your plan of action?
Cry.
Then perhaps do something do something productive. I'm going to start applying to programs in the Fall and keep applying until I get into a program. In the meantime, I'll try to build on my experience. I hope to get a volunteer position at a hospital by this summer! I can't really think of what to do beyond that since I've heard you can't get certificates until AFTER becoming an RN

Did anyone get accepted for Fall 2010? I'm applying for Spring 2011. Wow 1000+ applicants!? I need all the luck I can get!

I applied twice, first in the Fall of 09 and then again Spring 10, didn't get in either times. I did however, get into Delta in Stockton where I'll be starting next month.
I really would have liked to go to school closer to home (I live near CRC, did all pre-reqs at SCC), but that lottery system coupled with over a thousand applicants made it impossible!
Congrats on getting accepted Cobee! I was also considering Delta, but they have that new math requirement that I haven't taken yet. I wish JC's would adapt Delta's way of admitting students because lottery & waitlists are ridiculous. At least Delta considers GPA, TEAS & optional criteria instead of just admitting random students.
I know what you mean about going to a school near home. I also live near CRC haha! I'm just hoping & praying that I'll get in Sac State's BSN program for Spring 2011 because that's my number one choice & its much closer to home. I'm applying to ADN programs just in case I don't get in Sac State. But hey, Delta's not too far of a drive & it will be worth it for sure. GL at nursing school :).
Thanks, good luck with the schools you apply to. You'll need int algebra anyway to graduate jc and stats after that for sac state.
None of my pre-req friends have gotten into arc or scc, some are still waiting and most have just applied to other schools and gotten in. But maybe it's a good thing because the job market for new grads isn't good right now.
