anyone applying to CU for 2010?

Published

Is anyone going to put in their application this fall for Spring or Summer 2010?. I'm excited about finally getting to put in my application, I'll be attending the August 1st info session and be applying for the summer session. I will still be taking pre-reqs in the spring and I was so relieved when I found out I don't have to have everything finished to apply. My GPA is currently 4.0 and I should (I hope!) be able to keep that up until next spring. I'll be done all my sciences at the end of this summer semester and only have a couple math, a history and a pile of social sciences to do (music appreciation anyone!). The admission essay is making me nervous, but I have lots of time to work on it - I hope my GPA helps me out and they don't rely on essay alone.

I'd love to be in contact with anyone looking to get into CU.

BTW - I was going to go to DSN, but changed my mind since I decided to retake some old classes, and since we're paying for our own kids to go to college at the same time, needed to keep the cost down.

Congrats to everyone that got in. And thanks One1, congrats to you as well. It will be nice to know some people in the program before we start. I can not wait!

For those that want or wanted to know about GPA, etc...

My Cum GPA: 3.83

My Pre-req: 3.9

My Essay: I put a lot of emphasis in my cultural experiences in China. I also talked about my volunteer experience at National Jewish Health. I discussed my passion for knowledge, and passion to help others. If anyone is interested..I can email it to you.

Oh, and no previous bachelor's degree.

Specializes in Emergency, Pre-Op, PACU, OR.

Stellagirl, Solangel, congrats!:yeah:

EinGedi, yes, my acceptance letter is for the summer '10 accelerated start date. Honestly, I am not sure if I will accept. Originally, CU was my first choice, but I have also been accepted at Regis and I am deeply impressed by their staff, facility, and organization. It is a wonderful school to go to, and my heart is pretty much set on starting there in a few weeks. I will spend this weekend doing some major pondering I guess..

I live in Littleton and my letter also did not come today :uhoh3: I wish they could do email notifications so everyone would get theirs at the same time and not have to endure this cruel waiting!

And also CONGRATULATIONS to those who got acceptance letters today!! :redbeathe

Thanks dreamwaves420! A close friend of mine lives in Littleton and has not received her letter yet. At least you know, it will definitely be there on Monday!

Good luck to you! Keep us posted!

I applied for Summer 2010 Accelerated, but was given Spring 2011 Traditional.

That's exactly what I got. I'm turning it down because I started at Metro in January, so for those of you on the call list, at least one spot will be opening up.

As for the questions:

1. cum GPA 3.1 - I have a master's so I don't know if that made a difference

2. pre-req GPA 4.0

3. focus of your essay questions - I don't remember

4. volunteer experience - About 9 months at a hospital

5. prior work experience--in healthcare or no healthcare experience - Totally non-healthcare

Specializes in PHN, MH, MCH, Adolescent Health.

So--I was accepted for Summer 2010, and here are my stats! Please email me if you have any further questions!

Cumu. GPA: I was between 3.89-3.96...I don't remember exactly.

Prereq. GPA: 4.0

-No previous degree, but completed Communications coursework at CU Denver.

-Completed science and math prerequisites at CCD.

-I am completing my last 3 prerequisites this spring semester. This worried me, as I wondered how this would affect the summer start that I so desperately wanted. I feel so blessed to be able to start in June!:o

Essay: I wrote about my experience working with an A.P.N. and job shadowing in a hospital. I worked the administrative side of a large healthcare company for a few years, as well.

One1, best of luck to you, whether at Regis or CU! I am sure either way your future will be brilliant. :)

For those of you waiting, my heart goes out to you! You'll make it through!

Limeade, here is my information. I hope it is helpful!

Cum GPA: 3.23 (not including pre-reqs)

Pre-req GPA: 4.0

Degree: BA Psychology (GPA 3.4)

Focus of Essay: I talked about my family/parents divorce, experience working with abused children and adults with developmental disabilities, and having original research published

No prior volunteer experience

No prior work experience in a hospital, but in the past, have worked for a small children's behavioral treatment center for about 15 months.

Congrats to everyone that made it in!!!

Hey everybody, I've been reading this forum and I just joined so I could say congratulations to everyone who got accepted!!!! You should be so proud of yourselves :D! I applied for the accelerated program, but haven't heard anything yet. I don't expect to hear for another couple of days though because I live in California. The waiting is just killing me!

For everyone who is not accepted - don't let it get you down too much and don't give up hope! I'm sure the right path will come along, just keep working toward your goals!

Dennis88, how are you liking the Metro program? I was wondering about the Metro "group" the other day. Have you started clinicals already?

I really like it so far. The teachers are really good, and they do a great job of working the curriculum so you hit the same topics at about the same time in different classes. Like we cover something in patho and foundations and then the related drugs in pharm all around the same time. The teachers and administration are very supportive - they are very commited to making sure we all succeed. The first group starts clinicals on Monday (I'm in this group), the rest start in a few weeks.

Of course it's not perfect, but it's been a great experience so far.
