That is just adding insult to injury.

At least it looks like they are issuing temporary licenses again. I applied for one as well but they just kept my money and never sent me one.

Could be, I don't think it makes much difference when you send the transcripts. I was told it takes 1-2 weeks from the date the check was cashed (at minimum) before anybody actually looks at the application, so that would allow enough time to request the transcripts then. I am hoping that people get their licenses quicker in the near future as the BON & Breeze hopefully work out the kinks with the new data system.

Yay, I finally received my license number!! Short timeline: I applied 07/03/14 and did live scan fingerprints & nursesys that day. Transcripts were sent out 07/08/14 directly from the school. Cash was checked 08/01/14, my application popped up on Breeze on 08/01/14 as "transcript hx missing" (which does not mean much) and changed to "pending" on 08/06/14. 09/26/14: received endorsement. Total wait time: 12 weeks from mailing out applications, 8 weeks from the time the check was cashed. I am not sure if this had anything to do with it, but after waiting all these weeks without any communication from the BON I finally called the 1-800-838-6828 number on 09/25/14. I talked to some nice lady who told me that fingerprints were approved and there was no note that anything was missing, and to call back in a week to check on my status again, since supposably the BON was still processing early July applications. Today my number is popping up on Breeze. Coincidence? I am not so sure... Wishing speedy proccessing time for all the ones still waiting!

I think this is what bothers me the most about the whole thing. We are not applying for an ATT number so we can take the NCLEX. We are licensed nurses coming from other States in the U.S. I find it ridiculous that we even have to show transcripts of our prerequisites. Why do we have nationwide accreditations if they are not being recognized? OK, will step off my soap box now.. And of course no news on my license yet either.

Easier to get hired as RN or specialized NP?

You're welcome, good luck on your path!

Easier to get hired as RN or specialized NP?

The beauty of the nursing world is that (in theory) you can work in any area you like, or change from one area to another as you grow as an RN. Nowadays, pretty much every nurse is a "general" nurse fresh out of school. You specialize (maybe for the last time, maybe for the first of many) once you start working in a field. You could try to get work as a new RN in an area you really enjoyed during clinicals, or be completely open-minded and start in whatever area you are able to land a job in. Many new grad nurses have a hard time finding that first position because a lot of employers do not want to spend the time and money to train you, but on the other hand, you come without "bad habits" from other jobs. After a year or two in your job you can see if you like that area or if you'd like to move. Even experienced nurses do not necessarily have specialized experience when they change fields (they will have it from their old specialty, but not the new specialty), but it is usually a bit easier to change fields with SOME/ANY hospital experience under your belt. A lot of NP schools prefer that you get some RN time under your belt before you start NP school and I personally agree with that. That way, you will also feel more confident in your choice of specialization later on. There are always more jobs for nurses than NPs.

Perfexion, did the lady you talk to actually look up your application in the computer with your application number? Did she explain a bit more about what number you would have been able to call and receive a license the same day?! (If so, I'll grab my phone right now!) The reason why I ask is because when I called a few days after my check cleared and I received my application number, the lady I talked to looked up my application number and said it was not even in the system yet. She said that it can take at least 2 weeks from the time the check is cleared for the envelope with the application paperwork to make it to somebody's desk who will actually physically take out the application paperwork (other than grab the check) and look if everything is complete and start working on it. I am comparing experiences in this forever-lasting process. The same lady also told me that the Breeze status is not always accurate. I get the impression they are not too happy with the Breeze software over at the BON just yet.. Oh, and no update whatsoever yet on my application process, for those who have seen my previous posts..

No, I don't think it makes sense to even apply for a position without a CA license. I cannot be hired until I have one, even if I do currently hold a license in another State. With how slow the CA BON is, I doubt that prospective employers will hold a position for weeks or months for me, even if I was qualified. A friend of mine just did a similar relocation, and her experience was that employers would not even look at her applications without a CA license. Now, of course I could be wrong and I would think that this is also a totally different scenario for travel nurses. How about you, are you already looking/ having a job offer?

Turned my application in the beginning of July even and no change in my "pending" status as of today. It is very frustrating.

It's the worst when you get 2 people from the same company telling you opposite info.. I called my college first and they sent me to getmytranscripts. When I called gmt, the guy on the phone told me about the form upload options and said that the option would show up during the transcript ordering process, and it did without any issues. If I remember correctly, the option does show later in the ordering process, not right away. You can upload a pdf file, not sure if you could update a .jpg as well. Hope that helped.

I used that website. I printed out the transcript request form from the CA BON, filled my part out (I think it is the top part), and then scanned it to my computer as a pdf. On the getmytranscripts website is an option to upload forms, and during your transcript request process it will give you the option at some point to do so.

    How would you handle this?

I have seen ER techs hang around a department way too long, and way past the point where "respected experience" turned into "acting outside the scope of practice". I would not expect much success from talking to management, but I would tell the tech very clearly that he cannot enter orders under your login. Change your password immediately, like others suggested, and log yourself out all the time, no matter how painful. Document in your charting if the tech discusses preemptive dx with the patient - patients often forget who exactly upset them when they fill out complaint cards.. Beyond that, I would not rock the boat too much. This btw is coming from a former ER tech. The tech works under the medical director's license - as an EMT he is certified, not licensed.

Go with a check, that way you know when it was cashed and if you can view the cashed check online on your bank's website then you might be able to see your application number. Mine was handwritten on the check. My check took app. 4 weeks to get cashed, and according to the board it can take another 2+ weeks after that before they actually start working on your application.
