I am a "young 39"
Most of the kids in my classes are the same age of my kids! (18 & 20)
Feels weird, but I actually relate well 2 them b/c of having kids their age. They never make me feel old, only younger. And, I will be a "young 41" when I graduate from BSN school, then I am off 2 graduate school one yr after that! (I want to get my masters in Midwifery. I figure 50 ought 2b grrreeeaaattt!:rotfl:

I am 51 (second degree for me) and will be beginning jr level (Upper Division Nursing) on Monday. Will turn 52 in Sept. And there are all ages in my class. I got an email from one of my younger friends who, like me received their acceptance letter last week, saying she couldn't wait to see me on Friday for orientation. Yes, everyone in my class is accepting no matter what age. And it keeps me younger!

Hi
I was 46 when I started LPN classes and will be almost 48 when I graduate in December. I'm not the oldest in my class either. You'll find that everyone will stick together no matter what the age because its such an intense program and you're all in the same boat. I have to say that while it can be overwhelming, and you WILL wonder what you've gotten yourself into I am having a great time. Some of your classmates will become friends for life. So just go with the flow and enjoy and study hard.
I'm 49 and I just finished my pre-reqs. I am eagerly waiting to get accepted into nursing school. How glad I am that there are other "older" people with determination. Misery loves company.
If you "oldies" out there are anything like me, you will find yourself much more motivated with this step in your life. 20 years ago, I probably wouldn't have appreciated this decision then as much as I do now. With about 3 more weeks left in this quarter (my first), I find that I am doing much better than those who are much younger than myself. In fact, (not to scare anyone) we already have about 1/4 of our class either failing at least one of our classes or saying that "I don't think that this is for me." However, I find it very exciting.
I'm not saying that the younger crowd can't do well, but that most of them have much more responsibilities with children and husbands to deal with on top of school and clinicals. I wouldn't have been able to handle it when my children were young and I give much credit to those who are doing it.

dear luv2 quit. I am a 52 year old male student and just passed my PN boards. I am going back this fall to get my RN. even though it gets tough you can do it. get to know the students in your class and you will make some great friendships.

Nansanurse, I believe the ADN they are referring to is an Associates Degree in Nursing, a two year diploma. But, as we all know, the prerequisites make it more like a 3 1/2 year Associates Degree, depending on where you live.
It is tough to be a parent and a student - but the parent part has prepared me for just about anything they could possibly throw at me in clinicals. My last 20+ years have been on-call clinical experience!
It is much more difficult for those of you with little ones. I assist my parent/classmates as much as possible to compensate when allowed. We can all use a little extra help now and then...
