Hi: Is anyone age 35 plus a student besides me? My classmates are all the age of my children. I am 45.
Count me in. I will be 36 on Thursday, and that is the day I plan to enroll for some prerequisites for the ADN. Only problem is I took my placement test last week and don't remember any algebra (it's been awhile!), So I will basically have to start at ground zero in math:crying2: . But like other's have said, the time is going to pass anyway so I will get started and at least I will be headed toward my goal. I can't wait!

Hi I am a 36 yr old mom of a 9 & 12 yr olds and just starting out. Anyone out there with suggestions about grants & loans.
Hi! Some suggestions would be: 1. Visit the school(s) your planning on attending and talk to a staff member(financial aide). 2. Some technical colleges have grants and loans that you can browse through either at their college or on-line. 3. Check local hospitals for tuition reimbursement program. 4. If you cannot quailify for any loans or such remember you can claim it on taxes at the end of the year and it helps -trust me on that one. 5. If you are a CNA in hospital or Long term care some entities will pay your tuition if you sign a contract -of course working for them X amount of year(s). 6. What I did was to start out slow-I have been waiting to go to school for 16 years. I waited because I had a child and then procasinated. I worked as an CNA. The place I work for in WI will pay my tuition but I didn't like the idea of them controlling me after I graduate. So I signed up on my own, took the tests, and then started the pre-reqs. In the meantime I worked in-house pool as a CNA and that paid for my college. I took the tax credit last year and that paid for this semester in Aug. I plan on working as LPN-take more pre-reqs for the ADN program -take my time...waiting list of course and move on. I go to a technical college which is cheaper than going to a private one. I don't have an ego about it. Their pass rate is 100%. Thats good enough for me. In addition, I am learning and retaining the information without worrying about the bills. Hope this helps....Sandi
I am so happy to know that I am not alone....I feel that way a whole lot! I am 43 will be 44 end of the month and I have one year (2 semesters) to go before I graduate with my BSN. I am always wondering if there are others out there like me. I may have found sisters here !!! :balloons:Hi: Is anyone age 35 plus a student besides me? My classmates are all the age of my children. I agree, this is wonderful encouragement! I have often felt like I was out of the loop with my classmates, the oldest besides me is probably 37 and she sometimes feels old. Anyway your comment about mothering them hit home in a funny way. One of my classmates introduced me to a member of her family as "this is Nan, we love her, she's like our mom". I am glad to be loved!45 and the oldest in my class! I will be 47 when I'm finished with the ADN course. I agree with one of the previous posts: I'm going to be 47 anyway, no matter what I'm doing in the meantime. Might as well be making some progress!I love everyone in my class, they are all great. I do have to stifle the urge to "mother" the younger ones, though --- I'm sure they don't want any motherly advice!

Glad I ran across this thread. It's a great encouragement!
Have you ever wondered or been concerned about being a new hire along side those way younger? As in being able to keep up?
I just turned 43 and am mom to three daughters; 20, 15, and 12. I have been working on prereqs and coreqs forever. My last one is this fall and it looks like by the prelim ranking list that I might be accepted for Jan '05. I really never thought it would get here and now am really nervous. I am typically one of, if not the oldest one in my classes and it's nice to know there are more of us out there. Good luck to everyone!!
