Just wondering if anyone works there or had worked there, and what are your opinions about that hospital?

Hello,
Some of my old classmates are working there right now. Latest I heard their nurse patient ratios are increased, they are getting sent home or called to stay home because they are cutting hours. Look someplace else if you can around Flagstaff.

You might consider working seasonal there before you accept a job.

The company used to work with you if you thought you would like permanent but wanted to try it on first. Due to the economy, I don't know if they are that lenient anymore.
I have worked seasonal at a sister hospital and liked it. The economy then bottomed out and a hiring freeze began. It looks as if the freeze is off now.
I actually work at UMC in Tucson, but I always keep my eye open at their job listings. From what I've heard from one person that used to work there that it really isn't a great place to work and he actually moved back to Tucson to work. I have never heard anything good about FMC. Kind of a bummer too, because I really like Flagstaff.

I was actually a patient there and I will never go there again, if I cut my hand off snowboarding I'm driving to the next closest (like an hour away). Horrible hospital.

Yep, that's what I've heard too. I live and work about an hour south of Flag, and I know a lot of people who have worked there, or do locum for them (doctors) and I've not really heard anything really positive about the nursing environment there.
2 be honest, over the summer of 2009, I had 2 interviews at FMC. My first interview with the HR rep went really well. She treated me very good and got me excited to want to work at FMC. When I went for my second interview, ****! It was the stupidest thing I've ever had! i was interview by like 7 nurses at once. Some of them came in late, some of them came in and out during the interview. The manager at that time treated me like my experience meant nothing and asked me irrelevant questions towards the job. When I got a "tour" of the unit, the lady to gave me the tour was very very snobby.
I went back to Tucson, and was very happy that I worked at UMC. I interviewed for a different position within UMC. The interview was good. Only interviewed by 3 nurses at once. We even laughed during the interview. The questions were job specific. And then, I was interviewed by the manager alone.
What type of crap does FMC pull?! It was the most unprofessional and degrading process that I had ever experienced. I thought maybe it was just me, so that's why I posted this post here, but apparently not.
And what type of job makes you write an essay for a position...

I've worked at FMC for four years. It offers an outstanding work environment with excellent nurses and physicians that treat nurses with respect. Management treats us well and address issues when they arise. I am proud to be an FMC employee. It was a fantastic move for me from the southeast. Payrates are quite competitive and I make $33/hr with 5 years experience. Be forewarned...Flag is an expensive town in which to buy a home. The woes of the U.S. economy have remained somewhat buffered in Northern Arizona. The natural beauty of the area is simply stunning and attracts people from all over the world!

The idea (used in other professions too) is to see how you react to stress and strange things happening. Also will you get frustrated with stupid management. Thus the nurses being casual and late and questions not related to the work. If you get bothered by this in interview, then they suppose you will also freak out when patients don't behave normally, other nurses are late for work, and etc. and if you in your opinion believe a manager is being stupid. Lets face it, when you go to work every nurse does not perform same way and we have all been a round someone who seemed lazy or etc. There are many variations on this interview method but they really do work at seeing how possible coworker will act down the road. What they want to see is you not be bothered by any of it, remain cool, and never react with shock in facial expression. It makes sense as we never know what to expect each and every day, but I am still not 100% sold on this method for RN's.
Hope that helps explain the what and why

Comparing a show of "stupid management" to dealing with patients is illogical, as they are two disparate topics. Any company that presents that image during an interview, to see how you respond, is playing games from the beginning and isn't worth working for.

Exactly! If a company is that immature and unprofessional then they can find another applicant, and accept lesser staff willing to tolerate such childish behavior.
