Just wondering if anyone here is trying for a spot at Dekalb Tech this fall?
We are supposed to hear whether or not we are accepted by May 28th....so nervous!
No, I'm not a LPN but considered it when I applied to Dekalb's program but am happy to be able to get it all done at once and not go back again unless I want to. We do have an LPN in the program but the length and requirements in the program are the same if your a LPN or not. I think LPN's don't have to do some of the initial testing but they can tell you better at the session. We started in June and the terms are 10 weeks so we are half-way finish with this term.
Georgia Perimeter has an LPN-RN program they started last year. I would keep my options open since it's very competitive in this area for Nursing programs.

don't give up, i know people with LPN licenses with all kinds of charges. even a girl was permitted by the state boards to take her nclex and get her license after a drug trafficking charge. its really up to the board of nursing. good luck! Just don't give up!
Hi HisBeluved,
Thanks for the encouragement, but it's nto the Boards I'm worried about, its the actual clinical site. I was told the background has to be clean. I have no convictions, however an arrest (even for traffic) is not clean. I was told that it's up to the clinical sites and they don't want to see anything. In my current positoin i had to get a background chek and it was fine because I think they only go back 7-10 years.
I hear the clinical sites go back for as long as you have a record, so my record from 10 years ago would be exposed.
Hope things go well for you at Bauder. I looked at them as well. I have completed all of my pre-reqs for the RN program, however had missed the deadline for applying to a couple of programs due to timing that did not coincide with my course completions.
I thought I'd get the LPN and do a 1 year bridge to RN. But with this background check thing, I don't know. I'm praying that it goes well for me.
Thanks again.
Nursehopeful2011, why don't you get your record expunged?
Well, I was contacted by the police department. The suspended license charge, which carried no conviction and was reduced to no license on person cannot be removed from my criminal background. I am crushed. I'm not sure how far back the background checks go, but I was told that the clinical site does not care what is on your background. I just cant believe a traffic infraction could stand in the way of my progress. I checked on Bauder, and $30,000 for an adn is just not an option that I can afford. The accomplishment is priceless, however, After a bachelor's degree and Associates degree already, my financial aid resourcs are all tapped out. I can afford to pay for the community colleges out of pocket, but not a private school.
Really lost right now. It seems like the clinical sites would atleast look at everyone on a case by case basis. Traffic.....
Well if you already have a Bachelor's Degree and Associates I am sure many of your classes will transfer over. I transferred in eight classes and also have a Bachelors so you would not have to pay the entire $30,000. I would encourage you to speak with one of your advisors at Dekalb and find out the specific policy so you can know what step to take next. You can also apply for nursing scholarship.

I've been looking for scholarships. Any resources or websites?

ok so the next question is does financial aid pell grants and loans cover the total 30,000 or do you have to kick out some money yourself. I mean me being that I have already been approved for the total financial aid ( the most you can get) I am hoping I won't have to kick out anything else.
Also they told me I can skip out on some of the testing and certain courses i won't have to take but it will still take 15mths. I am hoping it will cut down on some of the costs. I want to jump in and get it done and over with as fast as possible. What are the hours? They told me 9 to 5. Is it actually that long for the pre-reqs?
Nursinghopefull....Here is some encouragement for ya, I have been an LPN for 7 years, I have a charge from when I was 18, trust me when I say this, I ahve a license in 3 different states and had my charge before I went to nusring school, I am 28 now. They are not that picky about charges. Not traffic violations anyways. The charges that will concern the boards and later for employments are felonies and drug or neglect charges. It is hard to be trusted in the medical field with a drug charge and if they think you might abuse the patients.
Even still, I know a girl who was allowed to get her license evawith a drug felony. They gave her another chance!. And I know many others as well. Nobody looks at a traffic violation unless it was a dui or something such as a hit and run or something like that. THats different. Good luck!!! I would keep pushing forward.
