Anybody here hoping to get accepted to DeKalb Technical College Fall 2010?

Published

Just wondering if anyone here is trying for a spot at Dekalb Tech this fall?

We are supposed to hear whether or not we are accepted by May 28th....so nervous!

I am applying to Dekalb for the Spring 2011. Did you hear back yet? How was the TEAS I am taking it in November?

Yes! I got in! :w00t:

The TEAS test isn't as hard as most people make it seem so don't get too worked up about it like I did. I was a ball of nerves when I went in. There is a lot of basic English on the test, so study up on those types of skills. I think there is a section in the study guide for it. The reading section was pretty simple. Math, not too bad. Math is my weakest area and I still was in the top 13%. Try your best in those 3 areas because the science section is something else. The human body section was pretty easy but the plant and animal science part was not... Just BE ON TIME to the test...they are hard core about it. Same goes for the nurses meeting if you get selected. I saw them literally lock out a group of people who came late to the meeting and they were thrown out of the program. Trust me, they don't play.:nono:

Just get some rest and eat (if you can) I couldn't and come in early for the test to relax and get set up on the computer. The test is timed so keep a close eye on the timer.

Good luck! The good thing is that you'll know instantly if you passed high enough for selection but then you have to wait about a week or so to see if you are chosen. Keep me posted on how it goes.

Congratulations!!! This is my first time taking the TEAS but I have taken a similar test (NLN) at Athens Tech. Can you tell me more about how your experience has been so far? Are you working at all? Have you started your clinicals?

Thanks!

Well, we actually just finished with AHS 104 (Intro to healtcare) and will start the next round October 4th. DTC had taken AHS 104 out of the pre-reqs last year and we had to take that first unless you took it before they took it out. We will have 3 classes Fall quarter. So, it will be a very busy and VERY expensive time! Save up....and be ready! We will start clinicals the last 2 weeks of Fall quarter and I can't wait. =)

Oh- I forgot. No, I am not currently working. I was laid off February 2009 but they say it is hard to juggle a job and this program at once so I guess it all worked out. The nursing instructors did say that if you work at night and come in tired looking or sleepy that they will send you home from clinicals...and then you will eventually fail.... Some of the clinicals start at 5:45AM and that means you need to be there at your work station at 5:30am....whew! =)

I was just wondering what your GPA and TEAS score were? I know they combine your gpa with the TEAS score to determine a final rating number.

I had a 4.0 GPA....and I am still confused about the TEAS test score...on the test it said 74% (needed a 53% to pass and be considered for selection) but I have heard that it wasn't on a 100% scale??? I don't know. But I think my total points combined (on the rate thing was a 70 )

Is this for the LPN program?

Yes, Dekalb Tech has a Practical Nursing program in Covington.

Hey Stephc1973, How's your first week of class go? What's your schedule like?

First week was a whirl wind. I had 3 classes and tons of info thrown at me for each class....so much so that we had a hard time remembering what info/assignments went for each class! My schedule was Monday thru Thursday 8:10am- 3:30pm for 2 of my classes then we had an online class. We had tests each week for each class and had to keep at least a 70 average to remain in the program.

The last 2 weeks of classes were dedicated to the lab and learning A LOT of skills that we had to know and perform on check off day to remain in the program. VERY STRESSFUL time. After we passed the check-offs, we started our clinicals at area nursing homes for the next 2 weeks then we met back up to take our nursing fundamentals final which was 30% of our grade and was MUST PASS test.

All but 3 people advanced after the check-offs.:yeah: It is sad to see anybody fail though. It is pretty hard and they are very strict.

I am about to start my second quarter next week. It is med surg I. 2 days a week in the class and 2 days a week at the clinical sites at area hospitals. :yeah:

Ready to get it started again.

How are you?
