I am considering applying to UAB online either ANP or ACNP and was wondering if anyone could comment on the program? How do they like it? How much time committed per week? Full or part-time? Is the faculty readily available to help/answer questions? Also, I'm having a difficult time deciding between ANP or ACNP. Is it true that if you are ACNP you can sit for the ANP test as well? I'm leaning towards ANP, but have 8+ years in SICU, so thinking ACNP would be better suiting. However, I'm thinking about post-graduation and finding a job and having reasonable hours with no call. Anyone have any thoughts?
I have a BSN from USA and are currently attending UAB for their ACNP/RNFA program. I don't understand what you guys mean by "not having a life" once you become an ACNP. Just because you have an acute care NP degree does not mean you will only be working in hospitals doing shift work the rest of you career. When I graduate I don't plan on working direct for a hospital. Where ever you work following graduation you run the risk of working long hours and taking call. As far as the question concerning UABs program, it is great. I am in my 3rd semester and have no complaints.
This is a MASTERS OF NURSING program at a very good school. I don't understand why people think this would be easy. I took the same class you refered to and had no problem at all with the group projects and I don't live near b'ham. Matter of fact most of my group members were from Ark. and Co. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices if you really want to obtain success. Why wouldn't you need books? Sounds like you didn't research the program much. I am not trying to be mean I just don't want other people thinking the wrong thing about the program.
I am a graduate from UABSON MSN-ANP program! I loved the program, which was 100% online (except of course clinicals)! I highly recommend the program as the instructors are phenomenal! I grauated in December, passed boards without a problem in April; however; I am still seeking a NP position. With that being said, I think it is most important to consider what population you are willing to work with to determine what program you want to enter. I chose the Adult program because I knew I didn't want to work with the pediatric population. HOWEVER, throughout my job search, it seems that having a FNP makes you more marketable. Just some tidbits to think about! Good Luck to you all and .........GO BLAZERS!!!!!
congratulations on becoming an NP. I was/am of the same thought....dreading to do peds because absolutely hate Peds. I wanted to be at UAB but I found that I cannot bridge with UAB. I have to pursue BSN and then do MSN. I have an associate's degree and a bachelors in Arts. I am looking at bridging. I have applied at UNIV OF ST LOUIS.and USA. awaiting responses. What are some of the things that you did when you had to go on campus 2 times throughout this program??
If anybody is interested in starting this discussion back up...I've been doing some research about the FNP @ UAB and am thinking of applying this month. So, just curious how the program is going for you guys so far...I'm so excited to start soon (hopefully), but I'm quite scared !!! Any info/words of advice are appreciated =)

Can I ask what program you were in? Full or part time? Did you work? What specifically did you like about the program? Any info or advice would be helpful. Thanks so much! I'm completing my application the end of this week for FNP.
