  1. I currently work for Baycare and personally don't have many complaints...I havent worked at Morton Plant myself, but did all my clinicals in nursing school there on a cardiac floor and on days the ratio was about 5-6:1. Also, the entire baycare system is mostly electronic, except some MD orders and one page of nursing notes. Personally, I love Tampa, Clearwater and St. Pete and would recommend any Baycare hospital to travelers! The area immediately around Morton Plant is beautiful and the surrounding areas are all nice and theres always something fun to do since the weather is warm!
  2. Figured I'd try to start this thread back up !! I'm planning on moving to Portland in the fall and am curious how the job prospect is now?? I have 2 years experience on a progressive care/respiratory unit...patient population consisting of your typical step-downs and ventilator dependent patients. I'm ready to start looking for a job...any suggestions on where to start ? Also, how are salaries up there? Florida nursing pay is a joke !
  3. do you have any idea why ?? I guess I'll have to call them...i was just going off the information on their website. But thanks for letting me know! Do they require a personal goal statement or anything??
  4. wow, june?? thats a loong time....i know its getting close to the application dedline, so how was your application process? Do you think I'll have enough time to get all the necessary paperwork in by the end of feb ??
  5. Thanks for the info np2b !!
  6. If anybody is interested in starting this discussion back up...I've been doing some research about the FNP @ UAB and am thinking of applying this month. So, just curious how the program is going for you guys so far...I'm so excited to start soon (hopefully), but I'm quite scared !!! Any info/words of advice are appreciated =)
  7. I've been looking into FNP @ University of Alabama- Birmingham and was wondering if anybody has applied, is attending, or graduated ??? Any info is greatly appreciated !!! Thanks in advance !
  8. ROLO, Thanks so much for the info/advice !! Definitely helps alot in the decision process. I'm so torn between the two roles ( NP vs. CNS ), so all advice is much appreciated! I found on the BON website that in FL, CNS' do not have prescriptive authority...does that mean that even if I were to receive prescriptive authority that I would be unable to use it in the state of FL ?? I'm not exactly sure what type of role I want to pursue, so I have alot to think & research about. I do know, however, that I have no intention of staying where I am currently! Keep us updated on your decision !! Thanks again & Happy Holiday's !
  9. ROLO, I've been doing a bit of research on Univ of South Alabama...looks pretty good to me...what track are you doing and how many semesters is the program?? And also, are you working full-time while doing the program? Just trying to pick your brain a lil !! sry for all the ques !! Thanks in advance !
  10. Thanks for the reply & link, traumaRUs !! So is there a difference between ARNP's and APN's ?? I'm a little confused...if i was a CNS, does that still qualify me as an Advanced Practice Nurse even though I'm not an actual Practitioner? Also, has anybody heard of a CNS taking on a position in more of a small clinic setting as opposed to a hospital?? I would assume they would practice more like a ARNP...but is that ever an option, or is a CNS restricted to a hospital setting?? hope this makes sense !! Thanks !
  11. Also, does anybody know if CNS' in FL are considered advanced practice nurses?? Thanks in advance !!
  12. I have the same question regarding CNS vs. NP, but in Florida...anybody have a link for some info ??
  13. Anybody have first hand experience in going through an online program in a different state ??...makes me a little nervous. Something I should consider? I would really like to get into a cns program soon, although I live in Tampa and the only cns programs within driving distance are @ Florida Southern College and UCF...anybody with any information about these two programs would be amazing !!! Thanks !!
  14. A girlfriend of mine, also looking for GN position has been on th hunt for a job for about 6 months now with no luck. She posted her resume on monster.com and was finally offered a temporary position to give vaccinations @ a local clininc for a couple weeks. Not that great, but better then nothing. So it can't hurt to try posting your resume @ websites such as those...
