Any UAB NP students/graduates?

Published

I am considering applying to UAB online either ANP or ACNP and was wondering if anyone could comment on the program? How do they like it? How much time committed per week? Full or part-time? Is the faculty readily available to help/answer questions? Also, I'm having a difficult time deciding between ANP or ACNP. Is it true that if you are ACNP you can sit for the ANP test as well? I'm leaning towards ANP, but have 8+ years in SICU, so thinking ACNP would be better suiting. However, I'm thinking about post-graduation and finding a job and having reasonable hours with no call. Anyone have any thoughts?

I just received an email from the director of FNP program stating that they will not likely accept any full time students for FNP this fall as the 2011 clinical sites/spots are all full. I figured this would not be a big deal as they are online and preceptors are all over the nation rather than one select area. She suggested I either accept part time, if offered, or choose a 2nd or 3rd track. Ugh!

Does this apply to the students who will be doing the distance program?

I hope it does not apply to the distance program (emailed director for confirmation that she indeed did understand I was questioning re: distance program). Will share update when I get one.

Update: received email back from the UAB FNP online program director who reports that she will not confirm they will not have full time openings this fall but she doubts they will unless some of the summer quarter acceptances sent decline admissions as these students have first grabs at the clinical spots and this still applies for online classes/clinical in other states. So, I remain hopeful, yet I will apply elsewhere which is frustrating as I have missed many deadlines now. Disappointed with UAB as they are not being very honest upfront as, if I had known, I would not have applied as I only wanted FNP and full time.

ugg my experience with this process and UAB has been blech- I went to Alabama and was thinking UAB would be a great fit- terrible time with getting someone to answer the phone, review transcripts, call back. The program director reviewed my transcripts and I have to repeat/ replace 5 classes incl college alegebra and history- bc they dont count as Algebra and History she told me, they aligned on the site, it is the same univ system!-- so I will pass for now :(

if you start w PT status will you have to stay PT or just for beginning- I am sue spac opens up after the fist several sem. Vandy sugg I do yr 1 FT amd yr 2 PT for ACNP-- maybe taking the pT spot will get your foot in the door!

I want to apply to the RN-MSN program, the deadline is actually next week:eek:. Should I even bother? I've emailed the recruiter for the RN-MSN mobility program but she is out on maternity leave. So I forwarded the email to I think the director?, but no reply yet. Technically my first couple semesters would be in the RN-BSN program before I move on to the MSN portion. FNP,full time is my first choice as well. I know FNP programs are competitive. What are Summer quarter students? I don't see how this could effect out of state students since we have to arrange our own clinicals anyway!?? Any idea what financial aid packages are like!?!? Thanks :)

you have to apply to UAB as undergrad and then have them eval your transcrpt then they give you the app--RN mobility does not guarantee admission to MSN, I would try tho- it is a great school!

Thanks for the info! I'm applying first thing in the morning. Do you know how long the program is if for some reason a person isn't accepted in the MSN program?

Hi Zahryia,

No,I didn't make the summer deadline...life is so hectic for me right now. I am still interested in their program. Are you at UAB or considering it?

I have applied to UAB for Fall 2010 for their Acute Care PNP program, they told me too that I should hear if I get in the end of June. I'm planning on going part-time while working full-time and I was happy to read in this thread that it sounds like that shouldn't be a problem. I will definitely save up my PTO for when I have clinicals. Has anyone else done the ACPNP program? I haven't been able to find out much information about it and the e-mail response I got from the program director was very short and rather rude. I would love to know which classes take the most or least time, so I can plan what to take when. Good luck to everyone else that has applied!

i am a UAB graduate FNP and loved the program i did all online it allowed me to work as well...
