Vanderbilt BSN - NP Program Applicants Fall 2010
Anyone know chances of getting a spot for FNP (distance) for BSN to FNP if you are on the wait list? I received an email stating that they are still accepting applications but they are wait listing for FNP distance for those of us with BSNs. Anyone know chances of getting a spot...trying to guess.

Any UAB NP students/graduates?
Update: received email back from the UAB FNP online program director who reports that she will not confirm they will not have full time openings this fall but she doubts they will unless some of the summer quarter acceptances sent decline admissions as these students have first grabs at the clinical spots and this still applies for online classes/clinical in other states. So, I remain hopeful, yet I will apply elsewhere which is frustrating as I have missed many deadlines now. Disappointed with UAB as they are not being very honest upfront as, if I had known, I would not have applied as I only wanted FNP and full time.

online nurse practitioner
Who has attended St Louis U online FNP program? I have been trying for days to get a hold of anyone there to obtain more information. Can anyone tell me the total cost and total length of the program? I called financial aid office to get cost information and they were not certain, I've tried locating information on the site and see that it may be around $900/credit--is this correct? Thanks so much!

Any UAB NP students/graduates?
I hope it does not apply to the distance program (emailed director for confirmation that she indeed did understand I was questioning re: distance program). Will share update when I get one.

Any UAB NP students/graduates?
I just received an email from the director of FNP program stating that they will not likely accept any full time students for FNP this fall as the 2011 clinical sites/spots are all full. I figured this would not be a big deal as they are online and preceptors are all over the nation rather than one select area. She suggested I either accept part time, if offered, or choose a 2nd or 3rd track. Ugh!

Mayo Clinic--New Grad RN
That is really bummer news to the two of you who had offers taken back; that really stinks. Did they tell you when you may be able to start (at a later date) or did they simply take it all back and tell you to reapply is positions open up? I know here some places took back job offers and told new grads they would likely be able to start in September or Jan. Hopefully everyone is able to find the job that they will love.

Hospitals in MN (Minneap/Rochester)
Hello! I'm just wanting to know if anyone can tell me some of the local hospitals that are near Rochester and Minneapolis. My family will be moving there in the next year (at the most, maybe sooner) and I will need to begin looking for a job. We are so excited to move as my family is in Iowa and it will be so nice to be within driving distance too. How is traffic in Minneap area? Can you live in suburb and still drive in? (*Think--I live in Seattle and deal with traffic here---just don't know how bad it is there). Pay: I saw the new grad rates listed on Mayo Clinic website and they seem great for the cost of living. Are the other hospitals comparable? (28 ADN new grad and 29 BSN new grad--is what they posted). (*Please do NOT reference me to some area salary wizard--if you do not know or are not willing to share then fine). Anything else you'd love to share about MN or MN and nursing would be greatly appreciated.

Excelsior...how long did it take you
Thank you all for the replies! I really appreciate it. When I called excelsior this week it was an awful call. The rep I talked with was far from helpful. She would not offer any information I had to ask all the questions and then she was only giving one word answers so I had to ask her to elaborate more A LOT. I take it customer service is not a strong point with the college? She went on to tell me that there was not really any way, regardless or pre-reqs, I could complete the course in less than 18 months and then it is usually closer to 2 years anyhow. This was discouraging!

Excelsior...how long did it take you
More questions! How long did it take you to complete each exam? How long did you personally wait for your CPNE? The college is saying 6-8 months wait time...is this still accurate? The college says that the program takes 2 years; is this true? AND why so long? I've completed all my pre-reqs so I won't have to deal with them...just the nursing classes. Is it hard to find a preceptor once you finish (this is necessary for Washington state). Thanks so much! Steph

Trying to Understand excelsior
So, I'm trying to understand exaclty how excelsior works. I've talked wtih someone from "The College Network" and got some info. Is this "college network" the same as excelsior or are they different? So, once I finish my LPN and take NCLEX PN I can begin, right? I've been told that there are 7 courses you need to complete and then you must pay and take the tests too. So what is the cost of the class? I see the test fee is $205 per test...so at 7 that is just over $1400, right? Then there is that clinical weekend thing that most of you seem to freak about. It is really scaring me! That is $1800--and if you don't pass you pay again, right? How long did it take you to finish the 7 nursing courses? AND how long to do the tests (is there a long wait for testing centers)? How long from the time you applied for the clinical weekend until you actually got to do it? Do you have to complete all your courses before you can apply for this to be scheduled? AND how are you financing this? It is about the same cost, a bit more, than the local community college--but there are no federal student loans to be had since it is distance..so I'm at a loss here. thanks in advance to your help and insight!
