Is there anyone starting NS in the Fall of 2008 with me?
I'm 37 also. My son is 4 and daughter is almost 17. My wonderful husband is going to keep the home fires going while I study all the time over the next 2 years.
Also...we're not "old" we just have a lot of experience being young...hehehe
I am starting an accelerated BSN program on August 25th. We have an orientation on the 24th, but it sounds like it is more of a reception than anything.I just finished A&P this spring. I'm taking nutrition this summer, though it is not required and I'm thinking that I will review A&P. I did well in it, but I'm already forgetting stuff and I want it to be fresh in the fall.
I suppose I count as an oldie too. I will be 37 the day after school starts. I have a husband and three boys (6, 3, & 3) who will stay behind where we currently live due to my husband's job. It will be so hard to be away, but we can't afford for my husband to quit and be out of work while I'm in school, nor can I afford to worry about child care while I'm in school.
Fortunately, my school has a very generous academic calendar. I'll be home for about a week at Thanksgiving and a month over Christmas, 11 or 12 days on spring break, and we don't have summer classes so I will be home during that time, hopefully working a student internship at a local university hospital that has student nurse positions.
i am starting in september. i will continue to work two days a week. i work at the hospital that owns my nursing school, so they have been very flexible with my schedule. all pre reqs are finished so i don't have any other classes beside nursing and clinicals. i am mom to two, ages 20 and 15, and wife to one! they are very supportive and my hubby is as excited for me as i am. i finished a ba in '04 and here i go again.
Hi everybody!!!!
I am starting in the fall as well... I am taking fundies this summer online. I'm super confused as to how to study for this type of class- omline I mean. I usually understand theory pretty well, but what do you all think is more important: studying in -depth what the book teaches, or spending more time on test taking technique- (like in test success books)? I'm having a hard time with my study habits when my entire life I have never had this problem.
Where is everybody from? I'm from Wisconsin.
Toodles!!!
I am starting in the fall at HCC in Eastern NC.
I am finishing my pre reqs this summer taking both A and P II and Micro. Having a hard time with both these classes being only 8 weeks but somehow Ill get through it.
I am also not young, 36 and holding. I have 3 kids 17, 11, and 7 and a techie husband of 15 years. A layoff in the technology field after 8 years led me back to school and to the medical profession. So far all A's in my pre reqs but I am doubtful that is how the summer will end.
I wish I had the summer off to prepare for nursing school..I would love some extra time in Pharm since I hear that the real make it or break it course your first year.
But good luck to all getting ready to start......Im sure I will be back to post how woderfully I :redbeathe NS HAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAH (yeah right)

Well I am a little relieved to hear that someone else is having difficulty with the summer A & P course (not that I am glad you are having trouble! ha). I just started this week and OH MY GOSH!! I already feel overwhelmed by the amount of information our professor is pushing on us! I am finding it hard to keep up with all the readings, labs, and a quiz almost daily! We started on Tuesday, had our first quiz on Wednesday, one on Thursday and one on Friday! It's all I can do to keep up with the review for the quizzes, let alone review ahead for the next chapter to be discussed in class. We have our first major exam this coming Tuesday on the first four chapters in the book and the first 5 labs. I go to bed dreaming about anatomy! I sure hope I pass this summer course. Each section is 5 weeks so it's very intense trying to cram 15 weeks worth of anatomy into such a short period of time.
Good luck to everyone!
It is surprising that nutrition is not a required course for your program. Nutrition is such a cornerstone, perhaps thee cornerstone of good health and the scant attention paid to it by western medicine amazes me. The nutrition course required by the program I was accepted to (but also by other programs around here) is pretty basic. I took it 20 years ago and it is being accepted! Admittedly, I am not fighting it, and haven't took upon myself to redo it, but have since taken additional and varied nutrition classes. I once toyed becoming an RD. Even in the hospital, the food served to patients is often nutritionally marginal, at best. How can people get well on that?Good for you to take it it without being required. I think that is great.
Good luck and best wishes, congrats on your acceptance.
I am taking Nutrition this summer but it is not required for my program either as a pre-req or in program.
