hi i'm just wondering would it make a difference if you got work experience when applying for registration? I reckon whether you've got experience or not one has to take CAS am i right? or is there any exemption?

Yes, everyone who wish to become a Registered Nurse of Queensland, has to undergo the CAS program, that is if they are not registered in any of the state/territory in Australia yet. CAS is similar to the bridging programs other states/territories are offering, the only difference is that you only need to go to Australia when you are required to take the part B as part A can be done here in the Philippines.

Those with hospital experiece would have an edge over those who do not in landing a good nurse job. :twocents:

For those who are applying in Queensland Nursing Council, are you still going to pursue your application even if there is a tight deadline from the CAS up to June 4, 2010? It's quite surprising that they would still accept applications and wouldn't give extension on the completion of the assessment.

How terrible!! we all have to finish the CAS exams before June 4, 2010!! I'm freaked out! I'm planning to take the part A this March but now that I know this info..I guess I will take it by Feb to satisfy the deadline.

For those who passed all the subtests in Part A or have taken the CAS B, how long did it take to process the 456 or 457 visa? Due to the timeline that CQU had imposed, we all have to very quick and prepared in applying for visa or anything that could delay...

yes, please share your timeline. we should plan our examination very well due to the tight schedule imposed by the qnc. please provide a detailed timeline (ex: from application, acknowledgment, go signal for part A, actual part A, visa processing, part B, etc..) Thank you so much! This would help a lot of nurses to undergo CAS next year

Que sera sera...whatever will be will be. Let's just give it our best shot. CAS isn't the only way to be registered in Oz. But let's just pray and study hard so we can meet the tight deadline.

Advance Merry Christmas fellow nurses!!! May we also have a Happy New Year! :nurse:

I wish I could share to you a definite timeline, but I hope this will help.

Once you receive your CAS pack from QNC, you would have to wait for 30 days before you can take the closest exam date (every 2nd wednesday of the month). After taking the test, results will be available after 10 working days.

As for the visa timeline...I hope someone can tell us how long it will take to be approved for it...

Merry Christmas everyone...God Bless us always. :)

" NO CLINICAL PLACEMENTS WILL BE ARRANGED AFTER 30 APRIL 2010."

What does this mean??

Maybe this means they cannot arrange for anyone who wants to undergo the 160 hours of supernumerary clinical placement after 30/04/10. Meaning the education module equilvalent for PART B can't be taken if one is not eligible (did not pass or finish PART A and all pre-requisites for th placement) before 30/04/10.

I wonder if April 30 is also the deadline for PART B Clinical Challenge Test??

In my understanding, it pertains to all clinical placements. So no clinical placement after that date.

A very important message for all CAS students

As you should be aware, Registration will become National as of 1 July 2010.

What does this mean for CAS students? The QNC contract for the CAS program ends 30 June 2010. All existing applicants must finish the program, in its entirety, prior to this date. All assessment items must be submitted no later than 4 June 2010 in order to allow time to process final documentation for registration/enrolment before closure.

What if I haven’t finished the program? There will not be any extensions of time given to applicants who have not completed the program. At this stage, your option will be to apply for the undergraduate program (for RN’s) or TAFE (for EN’s) and apply for credit of modules already completed through CAS. We would recommend that all applicants set themselves a study schedule with due dates so you complete all assessment items by the required date. You can contact your current lecturer to assist you with this.

Will some of my modules be able to be transferred to the new program if I haven’t finished CAS or will I have to start all over again under the new system? At this stage the new re-entry pathway under the new Australian Board of Nurses and Midwives has not been determined. Therefore we cannot guarantee if any recognition of prior learning will be accepted under the new system.

What will be the new re-entry/bridging for overseas trained professionals program be when CAS has finished? At this stage we are unaware of a new program under the new scheme. At present, applicants choosing not to enrol in the CAS program but wish to restore/practice for the first time in Australia must apply through the undergraduate programs in Universities (for RN’s) or your local TAFE (for EN’s).

Can I enrol in more than one module now so I have them all to complete in my own timeframe? CAS will allow applicants to enrol in as many modules as you choose. Payment will have to be made for each module being purchased however if come 30 June 2010 applicants have not completed or used all modules purchased, a refund will not be given.

Where does the 160hrs of clinical placement fit in? Clinical placement is the last module to complete in the CAS program and as mentioned above must be completed, including assessment, by 4 June 2010. It will be each applicants own personal responsibility to ensure they allow themselves enough time to complete the program (including the clinical placement). Please ensure you have all clinical pre-requisites completed as soon as possible (Blue cards can take a month to be processed). CAS will take no responsibility for any applicant that does not make this date for any reason. Be sure to allow yourself enough time to complete this component in your study schedule as well as all other assessment items in the other modules. NO CLINICAL PLACEMENTS WILL BE ARRANGED AFTER 30 APRIL 2010. Applicants will not be able to go on placement unless they have all pre-requisites completed. Overseas applicants will need to ensure they apply for their visa in a timely manner as this will not be accepted as an excuse for not meeting any of the timelines.

I’m currently on a learning contract that gives me different due dates. Which dates do I go by? Please note that this letter with these due dates supersedes all learning contracts. If your learning contract states you have a piece of assessment due after 4 June, please disregard this. ALL ASSESSMENT ITEMS MUST BE COMPLETED BY 4 JUNE 2010.

PLEASE CAREFULLY CONSIDER YOUR CURRENT SITUATION IN REGARDS TO EACH OF THESE TIMELINE

:sniff:

Please note that the CAS modules are no longer an option. Failure to pass the challenge tests will mean that you have failed to demonstrate competence and your application can not therefore be approved.
