hello everyone.
you may now access the national board of nursing and midwifery at:
AHPRA - Nursing and Midwifery
you can ask away your concerns in the email address they have provided there. as of now they have not posted there if there is a similar program to cas for overseas trained rn's seeking registration, or of what kind of program they would require for the applicants to obtain license. probably the only way to find out is to ask them.

I already had another option before I applied to QNC. My uncle in Brisbane enrolled me at a university in Queensland. It is a 1-year Conversion Program for Overseas Qualified Professional Educated Nurses. But, the intake is on February 2011. And, it's only my last option since it would be a long process if I'd take this path. For the meantime, I think I'll just wait for the national registration. Do you intend just to work in Queensland? I also plan to apply in Victoria.
Hi coffeedreamgirl,
I also applied to UQ and I just got my offer a few days ago. I'm still deciding if I'm gonna go for the program since it's too expensive! Let me know if you're gonna push through this path. It'll be nice to know someone if I decide to enrol in this program. Thanks! Best of luck!

Hi Carla,
I'm sorry I was too delayed to reply on this. Really? I'm so glad to know that you're also applied to study at UQ. Yes, the tuition fee is really expensive. And I really hope that it would be a good investment to be able to work as a nurse in Australia.
Yes, I think I am going to push through the 1-year Conversion Program that UQ offers for Overseas Qualified Professional Educated Nurses. I am going to enroll this month for the February 2011 intake. But I was also having second thoughts about being able to get a visa before the semester starts. My uncle advised me to apply for a student visa this November; he said that the money from the bank account should have been at least deposited 6 months prior to applying for the visa.
I hope I could hear from you soon. :-)

hi coffeedreamgirl,
what's up? did you already applied through APHRA? I did submit my application last july but no reply yet. By the way, when enrolling in UQ for the overseas nurses program, do they need a letter from APHRA stating that you have been assessed or you can apply directly for the program? I'm really baffled. As I said before, I might take that UQ path as well, depends on my application with APhra.

Hi kye09,
No. You do not need to apply through APHRA to enroll in the program at UQ. Application is done directly to UQ. There's a form to be filled up for first time application. Actually, my uncle who is in Australia helped me with my application. If you want to know more, just send me a private message. Good luck on your application to APHRA. But I think it would really take long time for them to reply at this time.
