Hi any nurse here in Queensland? just want to ask for a little help maybe you can recommend any book or review materials i can use for the Competency Assessment Test (QLD Nursing Council) I just need it badly. Thanks!
those who wants to experience the 160 clinical placement would have to be eligible before 30/04/10 otherwise only part B one day clinical challenge test would be open but must also be passed with assessment by 04/06/10.in my own timeline, if i fail in any of the subcategories this february it would be impossible for me to udergo the 160 clinical placement. supposing i take the module/s, i would also be time constrained.
therefore, i am taking the test (part A) and if i pass all 4, this is the only sign that means i should pursue further on the CAS route. otherwise, i will have to wait until 01/07/10 and check what alternatives are viable for me and my qualifications.
may we all have a meaningful christmas and a prosperous new year!
may God guide us on our journeys and give us the wisdom so that we can determine and accept the difference between what is attainable and what is not...and also the courage to keep us going.
I agree with you dreaminoz... I too will be taking the Part A this Feb. I also think (I have been praying for this actually) that if I fail more than 2 components then I would take it as a sign that I just have to wait for the July changes to take effect and then I'll see what other options are there for me to practice in AU. After all, there won't be any time left for me to finish the modules in time for their deadlines.
hi, for the 1-day part B clinical challenge, does one have to still have the BLS certificate at hepB? does it have the same requirement as the 160-hr clinical placement? thanks!
No other requirements are needed. Because it is just a simulation of scenarios that a nurse would encounter in a hospital or healthcare facility. Therefore, there is no need for BLS because it is just a test and the patients are just actors pretending to have illnesses.

Actually. for us taking the CAS part A this year are no longer entitled for the education modules and clinical placement due to time constraint.

We don't have time for clinical placements? So then what's the point in taking the exam? Oh okay, we can do the one day clinical challenge. Will you be doing that instead?
Hi for those who will be taking the education modules, i called cqu today and they said it would take 4-6 weeks for the modules to arrive in the Philippines. I was advised that if I have any friend or relative in Australia, its better to me to use their address in Australia and let them mail it to me through courier.
Is there anyone here who will be taking 1 or 2 education modules? i think im not allowed to PM or maybe i just don't know how. please email me i really need some tips on how to get through this before April 30..

Sadly, those are the only options.
for those who need to accomplish the pre-requisites for clinical placement, these are the answers from a cas program administrator:
1. is basic lifesaving solutions (accredited by emergency care and safety institute) recognised for cpr & first aid certificate? yes
2. for evidence of hep b immunisation and titre level, would it be okay to have just the booster dose since i've had a booster dose last 2006 (required for related learning experience) and titre level? we require evidence of immunity so if you have already had the needles then a blood test from a dr with the result is ok or a note from the dr with your current titre levels. do not send evidence of having the needles as this doesn’t necessarily mean you’re immuned.
3. for the student blue card application, parts a and d need to be completed by the organisation/education provider, what should i do?
parts c and e can filled up by a prescribed person, would that be the notary public which is equivalent of justice of the peace here in cebu?
have parts b, c and e completed by you and the prescribed person (i’m not sure if a notary public is ok – you may have to check this with the commission of young people and children) you can then post/email the form to us and we will fill in part a and d and forward onto the commission on your behalf. please note that none of this needs to be done until you are enrolled in the program.
4. for the medication calculation competency test, where and how do i apply for this test?this is provided once you have enrolled in the program.
hope this helps.

I found out about this just now. Passing all 4 categories would not be easy. I am contemplating on taking the exam in March instead of February to have more review time. But then again, time is not on my side so I probably will take the exam this February as planned.
There is no harm in trying right? Let's just give it our best shot and take it from there.
hi: i also got this reply from a cas program administrator:
you fill out part b, c and e and once this is completed then post/email your form to us so we can fill in part a and e. we will then send it to the commission on your behalf. as for q15 in part b, please put the university’s address.
thank you for your updates friends. here's another information that might help you in your decisions, coming from the cas program administrator:
in regards to clinical placement it will be ok to commence in may (however it would have to be very early in may) but we are saying that we can't 'start' to arrange placements after 30 april as placements take at least a month to arrange. so if you arrange your placement for early may before 30 april then this is ok.
however the earlier you complete the program the better. try and go on clinical placement as soon as possible.
