Any Miami Dade College students going for the acceler. or Generic option fall 2009?

I am currently at Miami Dade College fulfilling prerequisites in order to apply for the Nursing program that starts fall 2009. I'd like to be in touch with other career changers who after getting a bachelor's in a non-nursing field decided to pursue the program at Miami Dade College.

Thanks for your interest!

I only took science pre-reqs at MDC and the cumulative gpa is 3.95

I went through he** this morning and now it is going up the dean of the nursing school's review because the advisor that signed me off failed to include in the system my credit from my math course. The credit was always there but something in the system failed and it did not show when I applied although each advisor I met with said it was complete. Figures.

So at any rate please keep me in your prayers that this will work out favorably. Make sure MDC does not screw you over people! They are quick to tell you to come back next week or next month so they do not have to deal with you.

Thanks everyone for your encouragement and I wish you all the best also. Like I said when I went down there they told everyone the cut off for generic full time was 3.75 so best of luck.

@Pomakkya I had a friend a long time ago in elementary school down here with that same name and I always loved it because it was so unique.

It was just not making any sense to me with your GPA but I did not expect a 3.67 to cut it.I guess it is time to start preparing for the Teas

I love the name as well. I, too, attended elementary school with a Pomakyya; this school you attended wouldn't happen to be N. Miami Elementary would it? I starting to wonder whether the same thing happened to me for Spring semester, Tatortots. I took all my Science courses at MDC, but pulled over my Algebra from undergrad. But I did not get in w/ a 3.8. When I went to see the advisor, I was told to take 2 additional courses to raise my GPA. So, now I have a PGM GPA 4.0; INST CUM PRO 4.0; and ALL CUM GPA 3.85. I will wait and see what happens...and this time I won't take any lame excuses:devil:. I hope you get into the program after they review everything.

I was at Highland Oaks so there must have been another person with the same name!

I think the problem is that maybe when they took my algebra from undergrad something went wrong. Too bad after meeting with advisors all this time for over a year I was not told there was a problem of any sort. I am just going to appeal and pray that something can happen for me and that their review will suffice.

sigh.

Clearly, MDC is filled with incompetence! I called last fall to check to see whether they received my roll-over application and the woman told me there was a problem. I asked what it was and she replied I did not have a degree. I asked her did you read my transcript, she replied yes. So, me being someone that carries a jump drive with my transcripts saved as PDF files, I read my transcript line for line w/ this woman until I read my degree, award date, and subject specialization and she was dumbfounded at how she might have missed something so obvious...this woman is in charge of admission at MDC...so I know first hand, these people are incompetent and they probably got their jobs via cronyism/nepotism...because clearly it was not by way of the gray matter located between their ears!!!

I knew it had to be a mistake. This explains why you didn't get the email the other day. Keep going until you get in Tatortots, you worked hard for that GPA.

Everything is such a struggle at MDC. No one ever know what the other department is doing. That is a shame they missed that you even had a degree!! How do you not notice that? Maybe that is a reason you were not accepted based on their own ignorance.

The advisor was trying to tell me to wait until July 12 to discuss my options which would clearly be too late. I decided to go up to the nursing department and ask to speak to someone. They were of course annoyed that I wanted to talk to them but nonetheless they did. At least I was able to get the ball moving and work on my appeal. I should not have to be punished for an advisement department at another campus that failed to advise me for over a year with correct information. I hope they can add my math grade to my audit and have mercy upon me. Who knows. I pray.

Have a good week everyone and dont give up...ever!

This group is like counseling that we all so need.

Look I understand they have a large number of applicants, but this is no excuse.Medical Schools have as many applicants or more and for some reason, they seem to get it right.Who knows how many qualified candidates they are unfairly rejecting due to errors. They don't seem to even care and just want to get this process over so they can go back to their normal, uneventful work days.

Completely True! Just imagine how many people may have been denied by a mistake made by the college. MDC is a higher learning institution, but you would never know that by calling or visiting the school. Almost everyone there is incompetent. When you call the campus and get hung-up on or placed on hold for an hour. No one answers your questions adequaetly. I spoke with the Nursing Chairperson RP who responsed as if she was annoyed that I called her. She answered all of my questions with "yes...." or "no...." Are all Nursing Schools like this?'

I guess the moral of Tators experience is that you should never take "no" for an answer. If they say "no" you ask "why not".

Now that MDC has changed their admission procedure i expect things to drastically change. I applied to MDC once and was rejected so I looked into BCC where i will be starting in the Fall. I encourage anyone who has applied to MDC multiple times to look into BCC.

They do now require you take the HESI.

Unbelievable! Miami Dade,BCC and Palm Beach Community require three different entrance tests.
