I am currently at Miami Dade College fulfilling prerequisites in order to apply for the Nursing program that starts fall 2009. I'd like to be in touch with other career changers who after getting a bachelor's in a non-nursing field decided to pursue the program at Miami Dade College.

Thanks for your interest!

Im going to the Medical Center campus so I am really not sure.

Is everyone excited? Lots to do so little time to relax. I cant believe I am actually doing this and going back to school. oh boy.

I'm exicted! What are we supposed to wear to class? And is anyone actually buying the shoes from the bookstore or just wearing white sneakers?

Check your degree audits! Mine is a mess. There's several classes that I have taken that says have not been met and it states that I have completed some nursing classes lol.

Hi, if you are going to Homestead campus, we can dress as usual. They don;t requiere us to wear the uniform (as Medical campus does). We only need to used it for clinicals day or the lab coat for assessment class and skills class (just keep the lab in the trunk of the car ...jejeje just in case). For clinicals you need to wear everything, white uniform, the Id with your name on ( you know , the id that cost you usd 8 at medical campus and you need to request on time), plus your mdc id and cpr card , penlight, stetoscp, etc. I used white plain regular snickers and it was fine (make sure they are all white). For clinical female; try to get your hair up and avoid jewelery. Other than that if you choose Homestead you will do great! I love my campus ! best luck to all of you!

Are all the books listed necessary?...meaning, are you using all the books listed? Trying to see whether I really need to purchase all these books.

Yes ! and they will be your best friends for a while!

Good luck!

Hey Ra-ma13 and everyone,

I don't really know how to quote part of the message but just a quick correction, I'm in the Generic-fulltime nursing program at Medical campus and we only wear our uniform for clinicals, and our labcoat for skills and assessment over regular clothes (make sure to wear closed toe shoes), for lecture just regular clothes (unless part-time does things differently which they might). Good luck to everyone, looking forward to seeing you all later this month

Thanks for all of the help everyone :)

Also, do we really need the expensive stethescope? And is the rolling backpack necessary?

MDCupcake,

Did you purchase a MDC lab coat or did you get a plain lab coat?

POMAKYYA,

I actually bought mine at a uniform store and took it to the bookstore and paid to have the MDC logo put on (it takes time though because they have to send it out). The only reason I did that was b/c I'm on the bigger side, and the school labcoat fit me pretty badly. However, I've seen people wearing labcoats without the MDC logo, and no teacher that we have had has ever noticed or commented as far as I know, but it may depend on the instructor.

Hi, rolling bag is a must for me. There is no way I can carry all those books in my hand. It's up to you. I always pack my lunch and a few bottles of water, so it's very helpful.

I bought my stet. at allheart.com, I think as a nurse you want to have a good stet. because that is a big investement and you will be using it a lot and you want to be able to hear the "sounds". Mine was usd 79 and I think is very good.

Good luck! enjoy your vacation because you will be very very busy for a while!
