I am currently at Miami Dade College fulfilling prerequisites in order to apply for the Nursing program that starts fall 2009. I'd like to be in touch with other career changers who after getting a bachelor's in a non-nursing field decided to pursue the program at Miami Dade College.
Thanks for your interest!
Sounds like orientation was pretty informative. That is surely a lot of information they gave you. Is everyone excited yet?
I believe everyone is excited, but the reality started to sink in when looking at the book's list (16 books in total). Also, the uniform: top, $50; name tag, $8; pants, 17; and jacket, ~$35). Also, stethoscope about $80, the nursing kit will be included into the school fees...the information was overwhelming at one point. OH, almost forgot, we WILL NOT cleared to register until all the required documents are submitted including your background check!!!!!! So, just a little tidbit, get everything done. Luckily, my background check will be done on Thursday.
Just to make sure, they give us our schedual, right? We don't have to sign up for it online.
Also, when does everything have to be submitted by?
Oh, and do we need to bring anything to the orientation?
On Eagles Wings: I sort of live in that area. Send me a message and maybe we can figure it out if we end up with the same schedual. Now I'm wondering though if it ends up being faster to go to the Homestead campus since traffic around the Medical campus is so awful. It's probably too late to switch though..
P.S. 16 books :/ ... sounds fun! haha

Everything must be submitted by orientation, but it is understood people still have to do their background checks, but you will not be cleared to register until the results are received by the Nursing Dept.

Yes, you have to bring your student record form w/ DOCUMENTATION, drug test results, lab results if applicable, copy of CPR/ BLS for HCP, emergency contact card, and background check appointment to show you have one scheduled.
As for your schedule, it will be handed to you and you will be told to register for the section you want, but you will not be given the clearance unless your background has been done.
Hey Everyone,
I'm in! :yeah:God is goooooood! Got everything on my transcript cleared up, got my packet, and I will be at orientation on Monday for the part-time. There is a lot to get done before that though! I paid for my seat and the fingerprinting so far. I will be busy the rest of this week completing the requirements.

Ok so time to go through this list. Does walgreens take care clinic give you the titers or order blood work for you? Trying to get that done. May just get an appointment with the doctor so I can have that in sooner. Actually guess it doesnt matter because not getting fingerprinted until AUGUST! Geez no availability. I will probably be the last person to register.
I bought one uniform shirt and some other random stuff. I am looking around for some good shoes I can buy.
So happy it finally worked out.
Everyone else keep your head up! Keep fighting

on eagles wings,
Actually, there is a shuttle from the Clumer metrorail that will transport to the MDC Medical Campus.
