Any Miami Dade College students going for the acceler. or Generic option fall 2009?

I am currently at Miami Dade College fulfilling prerequisites in order to apply for the Nursing program that starts fall 2009. I'd like to be in touch with other career changers who after getting a bachelor's in a non-nursing field decided to pursue the program at Miami Dade College.

Thanks for your interest!

So not this week after all... argh... why did they say it would be this week at that meeting? MDC... always managing to confuse/freak out their students...

Regrettably I got a letter today that I was not accepted to the full time generic. Just to gauge the rejection I have a 3.95 ALL CUM GPA, 3.85 INST CUM GPA, and a 3.95 AS PGM GPA so not sure which they needed but whichever it was not enough. Im not bummed at all but still kinda like hmmm. Anyways best of luck to everyone. I really wanted to get into the part time so I guess I will find out about that one later on.

I am so sorry you didn't get into the generic full time. Hopefully you will get your acceptance letter for part time this week

I applied for both generic and part time and even went to the meeting last week about the scholarships.

I didn't understand why they invited people to scholarship information session when they haven't sent out the acceptance letters.

I got my rejection letter today as well, and my understanding is that usually the generic has the lowest standards.I have a 3.67.I think it might be time to start looking at other schools because this is my third rejection.Any suggestions?

anybody have a clue as to what the cutoff was?

I called to ask what the cut off was and they said it is 3.75 Which makes me wonder why I was not accepted to that program. I have no idea. They said I can come in and show the letter and see if it was a mistake. My GPA was high enough so idk. Whatever. I just wait to see about the part time which is what I care about.

@Tatortots,

If I may ask, which GPA pertains to your science courses?

Specializes in SDU, Tele.

Ughhh I can't believe it Tatortots, please go, it has to be a mistake. =/

I promised myself I'd keep off this thread until I got my letter, but I am too excited/worried...

Loras, why don't you try FIU, Nova, or UM? Are you only looking for ASN programs, though? If you are, I suggest Broward College, it is very good there. I would have applied there but I cannot drive that far.

Tatortots, this is a definite mistake.I am sure with that GPA you should get into all three programs because the cutoff seems to be running like last Fall 3.7 for Generic and 3.8 for parttime and accelerated.

I someone with the initials DD the best advisor down there.i desperately need to find out if is is advisable to retake Micro and Chemistry. It is those grades from over twelve years ago that are dragging me down.or if retaking is just wasting time.

I am so sorry to hear that you did not get in. It stinks that a 3.85 GPA ALL CUM (this is what they look at)is not high enough to get into the program.

You should go and verify that this is not a mistake. If in-fact you did not get in dont let this is small set-back cause you to give up. You'll look back on this day years from now and realize how its made you a better person. Try pursuing other options. Look into other schools. FIU/Nova/BC. Dont give up! Dont let this define you.

There is another person who frequents AN, who got rejected 5 times from MDC. Shes now an RN almost done with BSN and I think shes about to teach a class for CNAs.

Tator, Ive read alot of your posts and have found them helpful and encouraging. Although I do not know you personally, I sincerly wish you the best. Remember, sucess is not a destination, its a journey. Dont stop! Keep going! The skies the limit! Ask yourself, "What's Plan B?". Now get started.....

Tatortots you need to go down there ASAP.I just called and they told me they are still trying to calculate the cutoff GPA requirements. They did not seem to be on top of what is going on.You need to go down and speak to the head of this admission commitee because I sense they are making mistakes.
