  1. I really like nursing school because I love the subject and what I am learning. Every day and every new lesson is like a new adventure that I look forward to. As far as kids, I don't personally have any, but there are lots of people who do. One of the girls in my class has three kids all under 3 years old (including twins that are about 1) and is doing the FT program. Nursing school is not impossible; it just takes dedication and sacrifice. You will figure out during your first semester what you can and can't sacrifice and learn what works for you. I can't sacrifice sleep (no late night-ers for me!), but I don't care if my house is out of whack. I also have a very diligent study schedule and method which I figured out during my first semester and now I just make sure to go by it. I have learned that I need a study partner (not a group; more than 2 is a waste of time for me). I also need a huge amount of post-its and I need to have super organized books and binders. I have found this to be the key to my success: organization! I also make sure to schedule in fun. The only day I can fit it in is after my clinical on Saturday, so Saturday night is fun time (you don't want to burn out). Another tip is to remember that it is your responsibility to learn the material and learn it well, not the professors! If you know you did not understand the material in class, go out and buy a review book. Google the subject, ask the professor for help, just do something about it, don't wait until test day.
  2. Yes, you can.
  3. Hey, Eagle Wings! Can't wait to see you again soon! Hopefully less stressed? Haha. Quick question, Saturday is my first day of clinical. I just show up at the hospital/home right? I'm at Miami Jewish.
  4. Getting super excited about tonight! Got an email from Gonzalez this morning that says the following (incase you have not received it): I will be your professor for Adult Health Assessment, reference #663618 and #663646 beginning Saturday, August 27, 2011. In the next few days, I will email you the syllabus, other course materials you will be needing, and a room number once available. If you have any questions, my contact information is below.
  5. Just got my syllabus from Ponce this morning. The following books are on the required list, but I would wait to see what she says during 1st day. It does say to read Chapter 34 before class. Apparently, she wants us to read that week's assigned chapter before each class. Also, I was wrong about who had sent the email before. Apparently it was GONZALEZ,BARBARA,V. My advice: read CH 34 of fundies (all about asepsis) before tomorrow night and read chapters 9, 10 and 12 of the jarvis book before Saturday. Doenges, M., Moorhouse, M. (2010). 6. The person I met was part-time. As far as who emailed, my guess would be Ponce. But I didn't get the email either, so I'm not sure. 7. A friend I met during orientation also told me to read the 34th chapter of fundamentals (I don't remember why) and said that the professor for the health assesment class sent an email asking everyone to read chapters 9, 10 and 12 from the jarvis examination book (I didn't get the email). So those are my plans for this weekend. I can't believe it's starting already.
  8. a friend of mine who finished the course last year said we would need the supplies for the skills lab (the saturday class). they did not make them buy the bag with all the supplies (it was provided to them), but they did have to buy a stethoscope. she suggested i buy all the supplies already. i bought the stethoscope, but have not had time to get the bag yet. i was thinking i would get it before class on tuesday . and, no, i have not received a syllabus yet =/.
  9. We probably won't know for sure until next week (if a teacher tells us) or later in the year (no clinicals first semester). But, my guess would be Saturday. Next semester we won't have as many clases but we will have a clinical.
  10. Tuesday: 6:00P- 7:10P Thursday: 6:00P- 7:25P Saturday: 8:00A-10:45A Saturday: 11:45A- 2:45P
  11. By the way, I forgot to mention, I bought my stethoscope at uniform advantage (right on US1 across from So. Mia. Hospital). They give an additional 10% off for students (must show ID). I think the total for my Littman Classic II was 65 plus tax? Cheaper than the school book store.
  12. Thanks, Fem. Don't worry, I will pass by the school today. I passed by yesterday and picked up the stethoscope and what nots. I assume we will need it for the skills lab.
  13. I'm going to ask a friend of mine who went through the program last year. By the way, would someone mind posting the list of the books we need for the first semester? I just got back in town and can't find my copy of the yellow paper anywhere... Sigh...
  14. Anyone know what we need to take on our first day and first week of class?
  15. i have not gotten an email either. I am p/t option. I guess we will just have to wait and see until Monday!
