Any Miami Dade College students going for the acceler. or Generic option fall 2009?

Published

I am currently at Miami Dade College fulfilling prerequisites in order to apply for the Nursing program that starts fall 2009. I'd like to be in touch with other career changers who after getting a bachelor's in a non-nursing field decided to pursue the program at Miami Dade College.

Thanks for your interest!

Maybe the emails are not an indication of anything really. For the people that got the emails do you already have a Bachelor's degree? Maybe if you already have one then you will not get an email about scholarships since you are not eligible.

Happy Monday!

Not this time am getting married soon, so didnt want to apply to a school that would be to far from my future home :1

good point... last semester they told that since i have a bachlors i could not get financial aid...

Why cant they just go ahead and send an email and letter to let us know if we have gotten in or not. I told myself I would not crazy wih anticipation but it is always in the back of my mind. I am sure it takes a while to go through all of those GPAs and requirements but still. I can only imagine what it will be like the next round when they have to take into consideration the 40% weight for GPA and 60% TEAS. They might not know before school starts! ha ha

Why is it so hot outside?

If they just sent us an email then it would be no fun for them. I think that they gets pleasure from knowing that potential nursing students are riddled with anxiety over whether or not we got into the program.

I believe that the selection process is computerized. Someone over there enters in the student id's of all of the potential applicants and the computer rates these students according to GPA. The nursing department then selects the students based on the amount of seats available. Sound easy enough to me. The deadline was May 1st and its been 6 weeks since the deadline. You are right with the TEAS students may not know until the week before class and then its a rush to get everything done.

Re: Temperature. IDK Im at work in a/c. Its actually so cold in here that I have my space heater on!

I heard the same thing about the computers doing the selection process. Seriously, it should have been foreverrrr ago we got our letters. I applied for UM in one week and by next week I already knew whether I got in or not. MDC is soooo slow!!!!

I have a 4.0 and I do not have a bachelor's. DD wrote back and she said we could bring a guest.

As for the heat, I don't know. I don't even want to go outside. I only go outside to check the mail LOL!!!

Eagles, what program did you aply to? With a 4.0 you are practically guaranteed a seat.

Is DD helpful? She replied to an email I sent once and was pretty helpful. When I went to turn in my application I noticed that there was a long line of people waiting to see her.

I went outside to get the mail and almost got an instant tan. Its ridiculous. Needless to say there were no MDC letters yet.

Guess I will just sit pretty until whenever.

What programs was everyone applying to? I applied part time and full time generic.

Generic full-time. I can't remember if I applied for the pt too, but I don't think so...

Yeah but what if there are like a million 4.0s :uhoh3: Even with my GPA, everything is just in the air and I don't think I will easy up until the letter is in my hands! Haha.

I think this is the first time I have written to her. The only person I've talked to was O.Q, the pre-admissions adviser for the Nursing Program. She was great. Once I sent her an email and she called me back within a few minutes. She really went out of her way to help me and other of my fellow students.

I think DD was really nice. She said if I had any other questions to email her back.

Haha about the tan... I am white like a gecko but I am starting to get color on my cheeks from checking the mail everyday.

I have found most of the people at The Medical Center, and at MDC for that matter, to be stand-offish, unhelpful, or just rude. I do not recall meeting either O.Q. or D.D. but I called last week and spoke with the RMP The Nursing Chairperson and she answered my all of my questions "yes or no". After I said "bye" I heard her say "people keep calling and calling asking if they were selected..." I thought OMG! Of course people keep calling! Our futures are at stake here! Anyway.
