Any Miami Dade College students going for the acceler. or Generic option fall 2009?

Published

I am currently at Miami Dade College fulfilling prerequisites in order to apply for the Nursing program that starts fall 2009. I'd like to be in touch with other career changers who after getting a bachelor's in a non-nursing field decided to pursue the program at Miami Dade College.

Thanks for your interest!

Yup, thats right... only for 1 year. :-)

Need to find an apartment--any suggestions would be appreciated.

Go to forrent.com... try to look through the doral/fountainbleau area, it's super close to the expressway and only about 15-25 min from the med campus(in good traffic...:)). They are really nice areas with all kinds of restaurants/shopping etc. Miami Beach is kind of close too, but is more expensive, I think... :/

Congratulations to all of you too!!!!

No, I haven't paid my deposit yet. I will do it on my day off, Monday. I didn't read anything about insurance in the packet but I'm sure they'll tell us what we need to know about it during orientation. I think I do remember reading somebody post about it on a previous thread as well.

You guys made me feel SOOO much better about not having to have everything done by the 23rd! I will try to work on getting everything done by then anyway but now my stress level has plummeted!

Bruce, sorry I don't know of any apartments near the medical campus. I live near Homestead (wayyy south of the medical campus).

Have any of you other AO students had trouble with your financial aid? I have 3 holds: one for unevaluated transcripts (I think they were evaluated about five months ago); another for having a Bachelor's degree; and another for not having met the Standards of Academic Progress (an advisor told me that its probably because I have so many credits already).

Well a big CONGRATS to all that got in... but I must say this news is rather discouraging... I worked my butt off to get my GPA to 3.75.... i would have had a 4.0 if it werent for the 2 stupid psychology classes I took with a stupid professor.... anyways I was relying on getting in this term I too have a full time job, a wife, and 2 small kids to take care of and I work in the morning.... Oh well I'll just wait and see what happens. I still have not rcvd anything in the mail though. I'm thinking of going on to get my AA and possibly transferring to UM or FIU as a 2nd option.....

Question for those working.

I hear several saying they work full time. I'm in for the Full Time Generic but I plan on working only 1 night a week. Do you guys think thats too much or should I quit my job in the Fall. I have no kids and have some money saved. In the past I was told one should not at all during full time.

As for the accelerated I don't think I could handle the stress. I have some friends in there now and every time I call em their always down or stressed about something. So it kinda scared me. I have the utmost respect the accelerated program and its students.

Are you guys going to quit your jobs or cut down on hours?

I can do neither, plus I have a great job which even pays me tuition reimbursement. no way am I leaving the company....

Hey guys! Does anyone know the cut off GPA for this semester? I was just curious.I am in my third semester right now, and we are having a lot of budget cuts in the nursing program as well as in all of MDC and I was curious as to knowing if the incoming students had a higher GPA then the students before. The cut off has usually always been a 3.5, but usually students with a 3.4 would be accepted.

I really want to finish in December so I am hoping that the budget cuts do not present a problem for the students that are already in the program and finishing. It is a very stressful program, even from the beggining when you are waiting for that yellow envelope. That does not change through the whole program so prepare yourself.

Especially those dreaded critical thinking careplan scenerios. They are murder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then the fact that second semester is horrible with pharmacology and med surg and skill all together along with clinical.

I am serious it is intense, but I do admit that they do a good job at teaching and making sure the students know there stuff. Sometimes I feel that they exaggerate on things that are not to important, but at the same time I know it is because they want students to know what they are doing in the future, and to be able to think critically.

Ok back to psychiatric nursing, I am studying for my final...psychiatric nursing is not too bad, but every class requires a lot of studying time, and a lot of dedication.

Good luck!

Jessica1024 they said that the cut off GPA for this semester is 3.8 and only 100 spots available, like hitting the lotto I have nor receive a denial letter yet but I guess is on the way. But any way I will try again for next semester. Good luck in your final.:anpom:

:anpom:congrats!!! :anpom:am so happy for all of u that got accepted... no letter for me yet yellow or white. but if the 3.8 is accurate i should be getting my little white envelope soon. there was a fpl truck blocking my mail box all day yesterday so i got nothing..i was a little upset but nothing a bag of gummy bears and some good super hero movies couldn’t fix... well to all of us that didn't get in lets put it in god's hands and try for spring...:D

WELL SAID I FEEL BETTER TODAY, I AM USUALLY THE KIND OF PEOPLE THAT GO BY HELL TO OBTAIN SOMETHING BUT AT THE LONG RUN I GET WHAT I WANT. I AM PLANNING TO TAKE SOME CLASSES LIKE NUTRITION AND I BEEN LOOKING INTO BCC NURSING PROGRAM THEY ASK FOR 2 CLASSES THAT MDC DOES NOT REQUIRED SO I MAY APPLY TO THEIR NURSING PROGRAM AT THE SAME TIME WITH MDC, AND FOR THE FALL SEMESTER TAKE DOES TWO CLASSES TO KEEP MY SELF BUSY.:grn:

Can u guys recomend some easy classes I could take while i wait (easy A's) would be great :]

No idea but i will do the classes that bcc is requesting to be able to apply for their program as well
