I am currently at Miami Dade College fulfilling prerequisites in order to apply for the Nursing program that starts fall 2009. I'd like to be in touch with other career changers who after getting a bachelor's in a non-nursing field decided to pursue the program at Miami Dade College.
Thanks for your interest!
Congrats Bruce!!!
Mommysgirl, please pm for recommended professor or classes?
Congrats to everyone who got in. For those who are not, please, please do not lose hope. This will make you stronger and just know that your journey don't end today, you might have stumble but not broken. Please keep on going. More power to you guys.
There seems to be only a few of us on the site in accelerated huh? I don't know. This forum went from like 12 pages to almost 40 in a matter of days. I can't read everything. I know mommy'sgirl, mortero, and bruce are accelerated. Anybody else accelerated? When you guys speak of ranking, do they rank the people that were accepted? I am so sorry for those who were rejected, but if you haven't rec'v a rejection letter don't call it quits. There is still hope. Retake the classes that are average so you can get an "A". Really only A's have a huge effect on GPA. Also take extra classes, the best classes are the independent studies classes in my opinion. They offer a wide variety, but you must be disciplined. Don't get discouraged and study, study, study. Last piece of advice use the site below to plan your gpa. If you are retaking a class it will compute your adjusted gpa, you can use the target calculator if you just have an ideal gpa that you would like to have, and if you are enrolled in a course it will give you that as well. http://www.stagesite.aum.edu/Students/Enrollment_Services/GPA.aspx?id=5852. Best Wishes to all of you.
Hey MOMMY'SGIRL,
I am also going to be in the accelerated program in the Fall. It seems like we have to do A LOT by the 23rd. I work full-time and its going to be tough trying to get everything done. Not that I'm not sooo grateful to have gotten in.
For the people who didn't get in this time, my heart goes out to you. Don't give up- I'm pretty sure this was the highest cut off GPA ever. Like Mommy'sgirl was saying, one of the great things about Miami Dade is that you CAN retake courses and they count the highest attempt- a lot of other schools don't let you do that.
Yeah I know thats alot, but I am proud of it. Did you take your deposit yet? I did my deposit, response form, and drug test this morning, and my background check this afternoon. My CPR is tomorrow. I am soooooooooooo tired. But I think Mortero said they told her that everything isn't needed by orientation, but I can't help it. Why when I read the old forums it speaks about us being required to have some kind of insurance, and I don't remember reading anything in my packet about student insurance? Am I missing something?
Thanks Marggie, Mortero, 30NCN, Shen06, Rostata, EmpressT, Mommy'sGirl for the kind words !
Yes--the letter has a lot of stuff to do--darn and I may have to go to Miami (from Tampa) just to pay the $100 deposit and submit response form--ANd then again for the June 23 Orientation plus 24th test. Not that I am complaining--just like you Daisy. :-)))
Best of luck to all ! ! ! For those who is still waiting--dont lose hope ! There is still a chance ! Life is a journey so enjoy---A door may close on you but a window will be open ! Sounds cheesy but its true.
hey daisymei congrats , so i called the nursing school and they told me that if you don't have everything ready for june 23 you will be fine. they just don't want us to take forever in turning everything in. I def. will not be turning everything in for orientation. She did tell me that the main thing is to turn in the response form by june 19 and the 100 fee. that is the most important thing we need to do. i hope that relaxes you a little better because it did for me . can't wait to meet you all at orientation

Congrats to all of you! There were so many pages that I can't remember who got in and who didn't! So whoever got in, CONGRATS. For those of you who didn't, I'm sorry. I wouldn't stress over it so much though. Yeah it sucks, but at least you know what to expect for next time. This coming fall semester I would just take how many classes I'd need to bring up my gpa to at least a 3.8, and then reapply for January...or actually next year. I believe an advisor told me that the gpa considered for the Spring class is the end of summer gpa. I'm sure some of you will make it in the Spring class though! Don't give up. It's just mad hard now that EVERYONE is trying to switch careers, so naturally it's much more competitive. If you really want it, just keep improving and trying!
