Any hospital hiring new grads? anywhere in the country?

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Does anyone know of any hospital that are currently hiring new grads without any experience? I graduated May '09, and it's so hard finding a job without experience. Thanks.

If any of you new grads haven't done this, just open Google, go to Maps and then type in the state you are interested in or where you think it's so remote or poor or hot or cold that no one else wants to work there, and the word hospitals: e.g., Montana hospitals. (Not to disparage Montana, but there are some very isolated spaces up there, and it does get very cold. One man's poison is another's pleasure, etc.)

You will get a map with flags for all the hospitals in the state and then you can start looking at their career pages. I'd go anywhere because I've got wanderlust, but I'm also old and settled and have a spouse with a great job, so we are not moving.

Hi! I have an interview on an oncology unit coming up and I was wondering about what to expect as far as questions go...I already interviewed with the HR rep and am going in this time to meet with the unit manager and floor nurses..any idea of what kind of questions to expect? any help would be appreciated! :redbeathe!!

Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, TX! I was hired as a new grad in oncology! I believe there are quite a few openings in the clinics or hospital. Alot of med/surg positions! Visit their website www.tmfhs.org! They offer new grads all types of incentives for relocated and are more than willing to teach you everything you need to know! I relocated to gain experience, I moved here from MN because there were absolutely no jobs! I love it here! let me know if you have any questions!

Since there are specific hospitals listed in this thread, I'd like to add one. Lavaca Medical Center in Hallettsville, TX is definitely hiring new grads/no experience. It is a small hospital in a small town that serves Lavaca County along with one other hospital.

I will not post contact names (don't want to violate TOS), but if you're looking (RN or LVN/LPN) please consider this and other small community hospitals!

No, you don't get the excitement of larger hospitals, but if you want to get your 1 or 2 years medsurg experience out of the way...

Lavaca Medical Center appears to have no web site. I guess you can call them: 361-798-3671, according to the Hallettsville CoC website.

Apologies... this is accurate information. They do not have an internet presence. I wasn't sure how much information I was allowed to give in my post. :o

For what it's worth, feel free to PM if you have questions beyond this information. I don't want to violate TOS but I really want to help others out if I can!

I don't actually know what the TOS says, but I would assume that publicly available information (like a phone number, address, number of beds, etc.) is ok to post.

I don't want to double-post, but I just posted in the Nurse Residency Thread on the Graduate Nurse forum:

https://allnurses.com/graduate-nurse-forum/nurse-residency-programs-383249-page5.html#post5123391

It's about an UNPAID 16-week residency at St. Clare's Hospital system in NW New Jersey. I sure hope that this is not a new trend! But I thought I'd let others know about it, and let them decide what to do. I have no details about what your duties would be in that "exciting learning experience".

Good luck to all!

If u go to the state website for the state u want to work in, they are hiring nurses!! also check out va hospitals.

What counts as "experience" is what I want to know? Does 3000 hours volunteering at the hospital count? Does working as a nurse assistant count? Does working as an LPN count? Does working as a paramedic count?

Also, for hospitals wanting BSNs...what about BAs or MAs in related fields? No?

I'm just wondering...will be looking for jobs soon. Also: should one apply while waiting to take the NCLEX? I'm thinking probably not?

When hospitals say they want experience, they mean experience working as a nurse. Being a CNA or a volunteer might help, but if the job description says "1 to 2 years experience required", they mean nursing experience.

In my experience, hospitals don't give a hoot about a BA or an MA in another field. Your mileage may vary.

As for applying before you pass the NCLEX, you might be one of the lucky few, but don't spend too much of your time and energy applying. Concentrate on passing the NCLEX. Where I am from, hospitals had no interest in talking to me or my classmates until we had passed the test and were licensed.

Good luck!

Depends on your area, my hospital is the only one in my city that will not let you work as a GN, and this started last year. They still hired me before I passed my NCLEX, but I couldn't start orientation unless they got confirmation that I passed.
