Any GCC Students?

Published

Just found out Tuesday I am starting Nursing School in January at GCC. I have been going there for 3 years getting my pre req's out of the way and finally starting Nursing School. How do we find out our class schedule?

Never too early to find study groups

i didnt notice that before, maybe they are running two or maybe they made a mistake...one of us should call the school today when they open and find out

ItalianRN2b,

Hey, I will be going to gcc today to turn in my packet. I 'll ask the ND and let you guyd know tonight. Talk to you guys later

Hi everyone, you guys were busy yesterday!! I haven't really started buying things for NS yet, although I"d love to. I did have Nursemate shoes in CNA class and they did the same thing to me that they did to Mattsmom. I would get out of clinicals and my feet would be so swollen across the top that I couldn't wear ANY shoes. They were comfortable as heck trying them on though.

Mandy- IKWYM about the walking. I joined that gym about 6 weeks ago and I think I've GAINED weight!!! It's depressing. I'm going skiing at the beginning of December and my main goal was to not die during skiing. I think I'm in pretty good shape now, at least enough to take the hills slowly :rotfl:

The key to winning on the air is to KEEP TRYING!! I have this theory that they have one line available and a call gets through, they tell you "you're our 1st caller" then they hang up, and finally another call gets through "you're our second caller", one at a time. We had to be the 9th caller, and my dh dialed a number of times. He even gave up and said all I get is a busy signal, and I told him my theory and so he tried one more time!! We were the 9th caller. I've won several times on the radio, once I even won a weekend getaway at a 5 star resort in Scottsdale with a dinner out. That time it took me a while 'cause I had to get my phone out of my purse and then look up the number etc.

HOpefully we got good seats.

Well I've got to get Nickolas off to school. I'll 'chat' with you guys later.

PS- There's a great link on the general nursing board about PDA's. That's where I got most of my info. I bought the Dell Axim X50V on ebay for about$320 plus shipping. Sometimes you can even get them cheaper there. At Dell they were about $499.

Hi all. I am starting NS in January as well, but out at Boswell. I was considering purchasing a laptop, but after reading your posts was wondering is a PDA would be a better purchase? What do you all think? I was thinking a laptop would be handy to take along to the library. I guess I should have just started a new thread, but since you were already talking of PDA's in this I just thought I'd post in here. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Jo'i

I went looking today and i guess Costco doesnt sell them so i think i will do more research online and then head over to FrYs electronics or best buy, maybe i will wait till my hubby gets home. I think it depends on what your planning to use the device for. I was thinking of getting a PDA because you can download Tabers Dictionary, Drug Guides and a lot of other neat programs that you could use when your standing around on the floor or even at home. A laptop of course would be wonderful for doing homework and research if you were sitting in the dining hall at lunch but i dont think u would want to pull out your laptop at the nurses station every time you had a question about something...lol So depending on your needs...if you want the handy reference that you can pull out of your scrubs (then PDA) if your looking for homwork research tool to work on at lunch or at home (laptop) in fact i think that some of the pda's have keyboards on them now...something to check into for sure! There were a couple threads in the PDA post that mentioned some of the things that they can do! If you find out let me know too!!!

Mandy :D

And your welcome here on this thread anytime!!

I just spoke with someone at the Nursing office @ GCC about the math class Section 3312 that is offered for the full-time students and the time is 12:30-400PM. They said the time was changed after the flyer was made. So if you have the flyer that says 8-12 it is wrong.

Mandy,

check out Dell.com...They are having a sale right now on their Axims...Also, you can buy a coupon code worth 35.00 on ebay for a couple of dollars that can also be applied to the sale price. They have a couple of configurations on sale. The one that I would like is normally around 500 but is on sale for 400, then you could take 35.00 off of that price. To get the coupon code just go to ebay and do a search for "Dell Coupon" or "Dell Axim Coupon." You'll get the coupon code in an email then you will apply the coupon when you go to check out....

My personal choice would be to go with a windows based program (ie Dell, HP.) I had a Palm PIlot at one time but I had to many issues synchronizing it with my PC.......There are alot of good threads on this site for info on pda's.....

Specializes in cardiac/education.

Could this thread get any longer?????????????

You guys may want to start a "GCC Students Continued..." thread cuz this one is getting to be a real PITA. I can't help you guys with the technical stuff.........ask Keli, she seems to have it down!! Everybody has a different organizational style. If you can copy and paste from your PDA into your careplans then cool. I know I would never be able to figure that stuff out so I don't want one. Atleast not yet. Sheesh, I can't even get my MP3 to work right!!!:uhoh3:

The only thing I got for NS was a clipboard and a Littman Classic II steth. Really, even the stuff I purchased I now wish I had saved my $$ on. I even bought a new diseases book last week to help with my careplan patho for 40 bucks and I am thinking of returning it. Not that they are not helpful........but with the internet out there, I don't think there is much that is worth it. Even your Davis Drug Guide comes with a CD Rom full of drug descriptions. Just try not to go nutso buying stuff right now cuz all your fellow classmates will have good ideas too and you will be running out buying stuff later.:rotfl:

Started my new job today and started getting sick after lunch. Now my throat is all sore and I feel crappy. Pray for me that it does not get worse by AM. That is all I need!!

Talk to y'all later...........

Did i miss that part at dinner the other night? Where are you working?

ItalianRN2b,

Hey girl, did you buy all your books already? I went to the book store today and they only had like 2 of the books on our list. Did you wnna meet up and start studying together? Call me! Talk to you later girl! Take Care

Angie~

i bought about 1/3 of them maybe 1/2. A lot of them are not printed yet. I got what editions were the same and some of the extras like the RN notes etc.

I have looked at some of the reading and it isnt that bad, so far it's just been some background info...

If you want to get together thats cool. What did you want to study? You have my number right?

Mandy
