Just found out Tuesday I am starting Nursing School in January at GCC. I have been going there for 3 years getting my pre req's out of the way and finally starting Nursing School. How do we find out our class schedule?
Never too early to find study groups
I did get a PDA, I've had it for a couple of months and just love it!! I'm still trying to figure some things out on it. I brought it last night, but forgot to show you guys. I downloaded some software called the constellation package and it has RN Notes, Davis's Drug Guide, Nurses manual of Laboratory and Diag tests, and a couple of other things. I also downloaded for free Epocrates essentials and Diagonasaurus, which has been great for my patho class. I plan on downloading Tabers as well, all the programs link together so you can cross-reference stuff, and it all fits in the size of a calculator.
Other than that I haven't bought anything yet. We don't start clinicals until May so I'll probably wait on shoes and stuff. I do want to get a new steth, hated the one in CNA class, but I'm asking for one for Xmas as soon as I figure out which one I want.
I think for Xmas I might just ask people to give me Apparelpro gift certificates or something, lolol. That's what I really need. Also, I'd love to get a good wheely bag to save my back.
That thread is great, I go there all the time to get ideas. I think the best one I heard was taping from my notes so I can listen to them in the car. Since I'll have at least an hour drive each way, what better way to study?

PS- I won tickets to Pink Floyd for next weekend on the radio tonight, whoohooo.
uniformcity.com is where I buy all my scrubs. They have good sales everymonth and they sell all other items too. As far as shoes the ones I usually get the most use out of are the Nike walking shoes and they are very comfortable. I've been working in the medical field for the last 8 years and I have put a lot of miles on my shoes. Nike usually are pretty god. I bought Nursemates once and I didn't feel they were worth the money.
Rockports are very good, but not very attractive.
Hi Keli,
I already have the nerdy rolling backpack. I got it 2 semesters ago and it has held up great. I got mine at the American Tourister outlet at the Power Road Outlet Mall. They guarantee it and will repair it if it breaks. It has roller blade type wheels and I haven't had a problem with it......It wasn't that expensive either, 35.00-40.00....
I've already started taping my lectures. I bought a digital recorder that enables me to dowload the lectures onto my laptop. I tape my Patho class now and burn the lectures to CD so I can refer to them during Block 2. I'm pretty sure that your pda has a built in digital recorder so you'll be able to do that as well. I'm dying for a pda but I think it will have to wait until Block 2 (unless I can talk DH into getting it for my birthday lol!)
If you go to Apparelpro they will let you try out the steths. I think that is one thing that you definitely have to "try on" and what works or one person won't necassarily work for another. I noticed a big difference btwn the Cardiology III and the Classic but someone else may not.......
I still have that extra Dosage Calculations book...if you want it let me know....

wow you actually got through on the radio!! I have tried many times to win tickets on KNIX and cant even get the phone to get past the busy signal...lol
I was telling my husband about the PDA thing and he didnt care one way or the other if i get one so i think i will start looking around unless you all have suggestions. As for the recording thing... that seems like a good idea although i have NEVER liked my voice LMAO but i think i could get past that if it will help with the studies.
I bought a pair of reebok walkers and they seem heavy. They feel funny when i walk in them. So i dunno, but i did notice a thread on going to burlington for the croc clogs or something like that. Maybe this weekend i will take a trip over there....
well im going to head to bed i have this book im reading that is supposed to increase your reading speed and help you comprehend the information better too so WE WILL SEE plus i get up at 515 every morning and walk with my next door neighbor at about 600am ....geez youd think i would be in good shape .... whats with that?!?!

Thanks for the info! Kohl's has a pair of all white Nike walkers on sale for 39.99
(plus 15% off if you use your Kohls charge.) I'm going to check them out tomorrow after my Patho exam (that I SHOULD be studying for now lol!)

fyi...check out the dress code at GCC before you buy any clogs....MCC requires that we wear shoes with backs on them. I think we all have to follow the same dress code......They also sell Crocs at Henry's Supermarkets if you have one near you. They are kind of funky looking...they are made of rubber and are very soft.....
which was better the card III or the Classic? Where is apparelpro?
I liked the cardio III better....Apparelpro is on University Drive just east of i-10...They also have a booth at the indoor swapmart....here's a link to their site:
if you click on the MCCD link on their site you'll get a peak at our "stylish" uniforms lol!.....I'm olive skinned and I look green when I wear green! :uhoh21:

I've been searching the threads for shoe suggestions as well.....one thing I can say is to stay away from Nursemates. I bought a pair for my CNA clinical and was almost in tears at the end of every day (and I have a very high pain tolerance!) they killed my feet, legs and lower back.....
I checked out the Danko's that everyone is raving about but I don't know...they felt really heavy...plus with all of the money I'll be spending on books this semester I don't think I can afford to shell out 125.00 for a pair of shoes right now.....
I have a pair of Avia crosstrainers that I live in now. They are really comfortable so I may just hit DSW to see if they have a pair in all white....
I was going to buy the clipboard with the built in calculator but the lady at the store talked me out of it...apparently they tend to "walk" during clinicals...I went to Walmart and bought the storage clipboard instead....
Walmart also sells the compression knee hi's for 5.00 so I grabbed a couple of pair.......I've tried them out and they felt just like the ted hose I got from the hospital.....
I'm trying to hold back from buying too much for clinicals just yet....We don't start them until mid March and then we will only be there for 2 days a week for 6 weeks......
I did order my steth from Allheart. I got the Littman Cardiology III...It was 60.00 cheaper at Allheart than it was locally.....
I've bought half of my books from the publisher...I'm waiting to buy the rest later because there are some new editions coming out....I have to watch out because I am a book fiend. I like to get the text, workbooks, online companions, etc.....Even with the discount I spent a ton of money because of all the extras lol!
