We were discussing the Disneryland measles outbreak at work, and I was appalled to find some of my co-workers refuse to vaccinate their kids. They (grudgingly) receive the vaccines they need to remain employed, but doubt their safety/necessity for their kids.
I must say, I am absolutley stunned. How can one be a nurse and deny science?
As a nurse, you should darn well know what the scientific method entails and what phrases such as "evidence based" and "peer reviewed" mean.
I have to say, I have lost most of my respect for the nurses and mistrust their judgement; after all, if they deny science, on what premise are they basing their practices?
Now see? All you had to do was say antivaxer = Republican!I'll vaccinate everyone tomorrow if that's the case.
JOKE!!
This thread is way too serious

If this turns into one of those Republicans vs. Democrats threads, I'm bailing out!
I groaned when I saw that as well . . . . . .
The folks where I live are mostly conservative and the vast majority vaccinate. I work hospice but I also work as a school district nurse. The ones who opt out of vaccination are the folks who read Natural News and put essential oils on their feet to cure the "flu".
It is scary . . .

Oh my gosh! Humor people. Humor!
I was referring to the posted article about conservatives being more likely to decline mandatory (government) anything.
Whatever. It's an endless circle of nothing getting actually talked about (this thread). Except for useful and respectful information being shared by some such as Boston FNP.
Adios, folks! Have fun beating each other over the head with the same arguments over and over and over...

To edmia, no longer on this thread:
If you had any clue of the number of threads of a political ilk on the AN site devolved into the growling, knee-jerk, scathing, spiteful, circular back and forth of the liberal/conservative, Republican vs Democrat arguments, you would understand our eye-rolling, disappointed sighs and groans, and why it ain't just a light little introduction of humor. It felt more like a "Oh, no, here we go AGAIN!" moment. The predictable, disrespectful, obdurate flaying practiced by some is TRULY tedious.
Just so you know......
The reason people die is because of complications...not because of the flu itself.
The victims of drunk driving die from complications of drunk driving, not because of the drunk driver drunk driving.
STIs and pregnancy occur as a result of a complication from sex, not because of the sex itself.
Sunburns happen because of a complication from being outside, not because of the sun itself.
Dog poop on my shoe is a complication of not looking down while walking, not because of the dog's poop being left in the grass by my 9-year old.
I never knew thinking critically meant doing things just because.
Meanwhile, evidence of the benefits of vaccination has been shared in this thread, thus proving the pro-van position actually isn't "just because". You have yet to show science behind your position, which makes your position seem "just because". Irony.
Our country is turning into a communist country where we will eventually have no choice.
When all else fails, call 'em commies. That'll drive your message home real well!

Getting a flu shot is not just a/b you; it's a/b protecting the community, esp. the weak/vulnerable and protecting your patients. When I get a flu shot, I get the same feeling as I do when I vote; I'm fulfilling a duty. It feels good too.
Am I close-minded for believing doctors and scientists who objectively research the vaccines over an angry mother with a BA in English who starts a blog attacking vaccines? I think not. It's called discernment.
To be clear, you employer requiring that you get the flu vaccine does not foreshadow a future in which the U.S. transitions from democracy to communism. That's a giant leap, don't you think? Big Pharma and the govt are not out to kill us with vaccines. That's all in your head.
