Annoying female coworker conversations

Nurses Men

Published

Hey fellow men in nursing! I'm a student about to graduate nursing school this May and a hospital CNA of 5 years. I just want to stoke up some camaraderie about those annoying female conversations that we, as men and nurses, hear most frequently on our down time at school or work.

I particular colleague of mine in my clinical group, whom I like very much, talks INCESSANTLY about her boyfriends 3 year old girl who she plays mommy to because she does not have children. I'm constantly enlightened with what cute thing the child did this day or how she corrected the child for misbehaving. This fellow student is 27 y/o and is wanting to be married and start a family in the worst way.....I'm 22 and I'm not there yet....

I would never say anything rude to her about this, I just grin and nod.

Has anyone here experienced anything similar?

PS-don't even get me started on my OB/Peds rotation in school.... :p

Thanks to everyone for the supportive replies! I truly was not trying to start arguments, just some light conversation. Personally, I think there's no harm in saying women annoy men sometimes and men annoy women sometimes, as well as men to men, etc. I was just trying to let off a little steam I suppose. Personally, I'm in nursing school and work as an aide at a hospital so it's all nursing all the time for me right now, which as we all know can be a bit much!

Don't get me wrong, I love most of my coworkers and fellow students. I plan on learning everything I can from my preceptor when I get my first RN job, and that preceptor will most likely be female! I can't wait until graduation(5/3/14!!) so I can just relax with a beer and enjoy some quality piece of mind.

Is there any harm in saying that I find you annoying? ;)

Beats the H*ll out of football.

Half our staff is male. I've been subjected to (loud) conversations about the benefits of various assault weapons, pros and cons of .357 vs. .38, 9mm vs. revolvers, laws on gun ownership and carrying concealed, fighting techniques and great pick-up lines. (The pick-up lines conversation was actually interesting.) I've also heard far too many (and far too detailed) stories about deer hunting, deep sea fishing, elk hunting, moose hunting, bear hunting and game cleaning.

If you don't like the conversation, tune it out or change the subject. Or this might be a great time to go bathe your patients.

Our frat boy male nursing section has been infiltrated !!

Pointless. Everyone knows that 9mm's are useless little popguns. Colt .45's rule!!

I personally prefer shotguns. But they are kinda hard to conceal . . .

Huh.

I talk about my kid quite a lot because she's a huge piece of my life and I'm sharing my life with some of the people at work with whom I'm friendly.

Most of those interested are gals but a couple of the guys also ask about her.

Oh, and I'm a guy.

I'm not sure why you find this any more annoying than someone talking about their motorcycle, recent sporting event, or the tactical shooting course that they've just signed up for (to pick three recent conversations that I've had with other guys at work.)

Your annoyance says much less about your (our) gender and much more about your level of maturity... which is fine given that you're still a pup at 22...

I beg to differ...females are in the majority, so those topics are the majority, with a few men that favor said topic. I think the only point is that the main topic is usually the family and the kids. I'm not young, or immature. I just like a little variety. To hear updates every day about trivial events is really like nails on a chalkboard. I think, that is the basic premise that the OP was alluding to....could be wrong, but I do have to agree with him...

Nothing quite says "y'all best be moving offa my property" like the sound of racking a mossberg 500.
