Hello LPNs/Future LPNs.
Im getting reallllly bummed out. I got accepted into the LPN program for this July. I was stoked! :) my husband has been so supportive. But it's so crazy to see so much "bash" on LPNs and their knowledge. I've already had people say, "oh, it's just LPN school." Or "why not RN?" Or,"you're not going to find a job as an LPN." And,"LPNs are phasing out" talk. It's really discouraging as a LPN student. Especially since I'm soooo stoked for it. Why the hell do people have to rain on people's parades?!? BACK OFF!!!
I would love some LPN support. :) I know LPNs have A LOT more going for them. It's comforting to hear stories about LPN pride.
OP you will continue to hear these comments throughout your LPN career. You have to learn to ignore them. I was a LPN too and hated to hear people bash us. I've just learned to let the comments roll off my back. I've never had a hard time finding a job as a LPN. In fact, when I was a LPN new grad I had three offers at once. Continue to follow your passion.
You could have said you were going to pilot school and they would have asked why not astronaut school. People are just insensitive sometimes, which, as a nurse (no matter which kind!), you're going to have to get used to, sadly! But, congratulations on your new career - may it be an amazing journey for you and your family!
Its funny, cause the only place I hear the negative stuff about the LPN's is on this forum! I work at a hospital, and they still hire LPN's.I look at it this way...if LPN's were being "phased out", why would there still be so many programs out there to get your LPN? It wouldn't make much sense huh? SWM2009 is right, just don't worry about what other people say. Congrats on getting accepted!!!
Well...I look at it this way...with this many programs just pumping out new grad RNs, there really must be a nursing shortage, right?!
Schools don't care. So long as people keep applying, they will keep taking your money.
On that note, if being an LPN is what you want to do, then go for it! Don't let anybody burst your bubble. Congrats on getting accepted!

Good point about the schools...lol
I think the thing to do is focus your energy onto what you want to do and learn to tune out the rest (as best you can anyway). The reason is that if you change your life plans in hopes of not hearing that kind of thing anymore it won't work. There is always "something else" that will fill in the blank of "why don't you __________".
If you grow and learn and always strive to improve whatever it is you choose to do with your life for yourself and your loved ones, you stand a much better chance at happiness. Best wishes to you!
I've had people who don't have a degree in anything ask me why I didn't go to RN school. I'm like seriously worry about your own life. To each his own. Good luck in school![/quote']I feel your pain. I've had people ask me that questions repeatedly I've even had family members that didn't even graduate from high school ask me why I don't want to be an RN. I def would like to become an RN one day but I'm moving at my own pace.
Instructors in my school often say things like, "well you can't do this as an lpn so..." it can be kinda annoying sometimes. But I was Cna for 5 years so just being in school is like a dream come true.

I had people tell me that when I was going into the program. Its discouraging especially when you hear family say it but I didn't let it stop me. My husband was very supportive. Now, im working as a lvn with a decent pay and i dont regret it. Its your life, your future so chase it and who cares what others have to say
