Annoyed by nursing commerical they keep running

Published

Does anyone still see the nursing commercial that keeps running on TV. At the end it says "you're a nurse you make a difference." I don't why but it annoys me to no end. Enough already!!! Most schools have a year long or more waiting list just to get in. There is no nursing shortage. Anyone else feel the same way??

The truth is that the numbers tell us that we will have a huge nursing shortage. That is a national problem.

So short term, it's tough for new grads to get jobs right away.....but long term, we're going to need a lot more nurses.

J&J is looking to address the long term need.

yes, the song is horrid. i think the whole idea of the campaign is curry favor with nurses so they'll be more inclined to use j&j products when given a choice.

There IS a nursing shortage in various areas of the country. I live in a major city and the nursing shortage there is insane. The critical needs employment opps are ALL RN positions. Now, in the middle of MA, where my folks live, there is not a shortage. It all depends.

i dont get why everyone is so mad about this. are you jealous that people are going to see this commercial and steal your spot in nursing school? who cares if it makes more people want to be nurses. there are hundreds of students at the cc i did my prereqs at who claim they are going to be nurses, then they take A&P and about half of them change their minds because they cant pass.. and then for the ones that make it into the program at least half fail the first semester.. and a few more will fail throughout the program. so maybe 10% of people who WANT to be a nurse because they saw that ridiculous commercial will actually become nurses.

my conclusion: why the hell are you worrying about this annoying commercial so much? are you that insecure, or do you just have that much time on your hands to over analyze such trivial things..

oh yeah, i get it. its winter break. we do have a lot of free time. i hope no one was offended by this. im kinda sick and this post annoyed me for some reason. good day.

I think the song is... catchy. It's used heavily in this short documentry about nursing during Hurricane Katrina. It's also made by Johnson and Johnson.

It is corny though.

I think that the idea of the commercial acknowledging what nurses do is a great one. however they may have not executed it perfectly. It some what seems like they are advertising the nursing career, and no there is not a real shortage. I think what bugs me is that I have ALWAYS wanted to be a nurse and never thought of it as a secure job because of the money or because of the benefits... but there are people who may think about going to nursing school (like lots of people in my class) just because of the salary and benefits... thats what bugs me! do it for passion, not for money, thats what the patients deserve!!!!

My problem with the commercial is just like with the stupid political commercials. If a commercial can change your mind or sway you to do something, you have no business in nursing.

Its annoying from the standpoint of, even though it doesn't DIRECTLY promote going into nursing, it does have a very heavy undertone of "if you want to make a difference, go into nursing", "nursing is THE career field to be in right now". So with that it is annoying to those that already are looking at coming out of nursing school into an oversaturated job market, or those that that truely want to be nurses and can't even get into nursing school due to wait lists due to how many nursing students there are due to nursing being looked at as "the career field to go into".

I definitely agree with that!! I am a little annoyed that there are people in my class that want to be a nurse just because of the pay or it's considered recession proof.

YES!!!! Very well said!!!

That ad annoys me. That ad campaign was started to get more people into nursing. All the while new grad RNs can't even get jobs in my area. Even experienced nurses are having trouble finding work as nurses.

Now they constantly run the one trying to get more people to become nurse instructors. There is no nursing shortage.

okay i guess i have a different opinion (though i understand everyone else's)...im nearly 40 changing careers, and currently in my senior year...everytime i hear this commercial it warms my heart a little..."your a nurse, you make a difference"..yes thats what i want to do!! make a difference, as cheesy as it may sound...also keeps me motivated....:redpinkhe

I smell jealousy here.

"They want to be nurses because of pay rates! oh, there is already a waitlist in schools, don't come here in this field!" blah blah blah...

Some people will need to worry about their own business. A million of people may want to go into nsg after seeing this commercial. Who cares? And I don't want to judge people for their reasons! How many of you would do this job if the pay was the lowest rate? honestly? And I dont care about the reasons; I care about the performance of the nurses.

Some people here need to stop "owning" this career and being selfish. It is for EVERYBODY who wants to do it and can do it.

Ps: I am a last semester nursing student who has 5 months to graduate.
