Am I Too Old for Nursing School , I am 26 years old and tired

Published

I am 26 years old, single mom. I have pursuing this career since I was 22 yrs old. In this time I was in the Army Reserve, had a baby and had rough times with my child's father. In and out of court, child support, custody. Because of this, due to poor grades, I had to repeat classes and now its draining the hell out of me. Hopefully I will start nursing school this January. I dont know, I feel like I am getting too old. I work in the hospital and I see 22 yr old nurses and I feel a tinge of jealousy.... I dont know I just feel like I am too old sometimes but I am really worried. I am also worried about paying for college,, the school I want to go to costs about 26k a yr for 2 yrs....I dont know but Im gonna try...

Lord, I hope you're not "too old". If you are, then I should just pack up my toys and leave the sandbox :)

I'm 41 and became an LPN 2 yrs ago. I have all intentions of going back and finally finishing what I started years ago. I will probably be mid 40's by the time I have RN after my name.

You most certanily are NOT too old.

Oh come on now..seriously? you are never too old for education. I'm 34 and will be starting Nursing school. I'm leaving the ARMY with 8 years in to work on my second career. You can do it...Don't get discouraged.

good Lord...NO! you are not too old...im 39 in my second year of BSN...sometimes i think im too old, BUT when i think about how many years of working I have left, (more than 20) heck no...not too old! dont get discouraged!

Whew, that is a lot of money! I am going to a community college that is thousands of dollars cheaper...is that a possibility for you? Do you qualify for any financial aid?

Just imagine, once you finish and are a nurse, you will feel like you have conquered the world!!! :smokin:

see, look at everybody here! if you really want to do it then go for it! imagine getting much older and regretting your dream ! some people finish way early but no ones the same!

To put it in perspective, you'll be working for another 40 yrs.

I'll be 30 when I enter into nursing school and my goal is to have a doctorate before I'm 60.

My grandmother graduated nursing school at age 64! ha!

No doubt, your journey to become an RN will be different from those 22 year olds that you see, but who cares!? It is your life. You can do whatever you want! I really admire parents who work hard for their dreams and still support their kids and family. One of my best friends at work was a single mom of two children working two jobs and still had dreams of making the change from an CNA to an RN. Good Luck to you!

Never too old to do anything! Too tired, maybe! :)

I'm in my 30s and had similiar thoughts, but then realized...who cares how old the people you work with are as long as you're working too!

Maybe where you work has an Education Assistance program where they pay a portion of your tuition. Maybe you can find a cheaper program. Maybe you can get private loans. Maybe you can let go of your man-drama for awhile and focus on yourself and child. Choices you make now last a lifetime, and you've got a long way to go!

Just know, the hard part of schooling will be minimial compared to attaining a lifetime career - one where you have potential to work in a field where you can take care of your child without needing financial assistance from a man who may not be there. And you could choose to quit, years later regret it, and then be even older when you try again. You've invested so much already, don't look back - just keep going - you're almost there!

The mean age for students entering our Direct Entry MSN program is 29! So at 26, you'd be on the younger part of the class.

This year the age range for new students is 21 to 56.

I'm 26 with a husband and 5 children under the age of 6 1/2. If I can muster up the energy to go for it, you can too! Keep your chin up and push on through, it will be worth it, you will ALWAYS be able to provide for your child! Good luck hun!

Too old are you kidding me, I feel insulted because I will be 26 when I enter the program. 26 years old that's funny, there are people wishing they would have pursued nursing earlier than they did. I mean my mom wants to go back and she is 47. Honey you are just fine, there isn't an age limit to starting school. At 26 you will be in the majority not the minority just watch and see. Good Luck.
