I am almost 29 and have a 2-year-old daughter and one on the way (due 11/17!) I have a few college credits, mostly social sciences, psych, and English and work in medical transcription right now as an editor. I've been doing it for about 10 years. :uhoh21:
I really want to be a nurse and have so much respect for what they do. I'm really not the best in math (at least not algebra!) and need all of my science prereqs before I could even begin... not to mention it would be awhile because of the new baby... am I too old to be considering this? I was going to school online to complete my RHIT and get into medical coding but blah! It's not what I want to do!
Any advice? I could do some prereqs while I'm pregnant and laid up this summer. I've taken the NET twice to get into a 2-yr program but failed the reading part both times so I'd probably just get my 4-yr since I have a ton of general ed credits anyway.
Any advice?

You are definately not too old. There are women twice your age going into nursing! Just get what you can done and keep practicing the reading portion of the NET. It may take some time, but you can do it! Good luck to you and congrats on your little one!

You are not too old! I was 28 when I started on my Associate Degree. I had 3 kids (aged 10, 9, and 4). The two year program actually took me three years. I had never attended college before, so I had to take all my pre-reqs. I spent the first year getting all of those out of the way so I could focus on nursing. I will graduate this Friday night. 12 days shy of my 31st birthday. You can do this! There were many in our class who turned 50 during the time we were in school. I think the age helps a bit when it comes to school. I know that I wouldn't have been able to focus as well when I was a kid. There is a lot to be said for maturity level, you know?

You are FAR from too old. Most of the people in my nursing class were older than you. You would have been considered one of the youngins...

You are never too old. I am graduating on May 13th!!!!!!!! and there is a lady in our class who is 49 years old, never worked in the medical field, she had never even taken any algebra, and she is graduating 3rd in the class. I say if that is really what you want to do than go for it. Don't let anything stand in your way...it will be worth it in the end.

You are not too old! Just keep studying and you can do it. Have you tried using a NET study guide to help your scores?

Go for it. I'm 33, do not allow age to discourage you. A good buddy of mine is 52 and in his first year of Nursing school.

I understand where you are coming from. I am almost 30, we have 2 - 10 year old girls and a 4 year old girl and a 16mth old boy. I am just starting my pre-reqs this summer. My prob is that do to my age and my oldest child's age that I feel like I need to hurry. I am finding that I am very impatient in wanting this. But there is no way around how long it takes, nor should there be due, to all the knowledge needed in this profession.
Look into the online courses where you can work from your home. You can definately do math courses this way and sometimes the lecture part of Biology. I did one of my developmental Algebra classes this way.
You can do this. It is never too late if it is something you want.
I wish you the best of luck! And best of wishes with the new baby!
