Nurses General Nursing

Published

I have loved this site, but as I check , "Today's Posts", as is my wont, more and more, there are only student related topics.

What has happened here? Has anyone else noticed this? I have no problem with lots of students here, but I also want to participate in lively discussions with peers!

Missed you!! Welcome back!

I'm sadly one of those nurses who stopped visiting the site as often when the app went away. I used to go on the app daily, looked forward to the lively debates and discussions, however I don't use my laptop very often, and navigating a website forum on a smart phone is not something I care to do. However, tonight it is slow at work so I thought what the heck, let me see what is going on there, and it does seem to be a lot more student questions than nursing discussion. I say, bring the app back please! If you build it, they will come... :)

We realize that students post mistakenly in the "nursing" forums, especially the General Nursing forum.

I've never started a new thread, but I have accidentally clicked on the "Add Your Topic Now" button before. One thing I noticed is that there is no option to select which forum you'd like to post in. So, inevitably, the new thread posts in whichever forum you happen to be in at the time whether it is the most appropriate or not (and I would guess that the "General Nursing" forum is a popular destination for perusing the site). Why not offer a drop down box asking posters which forum they would like to post their new thread in? It would also help those brand new AN users who haven't had the chance to fully explore the extensive nature of the site to see that there are many forums that are directly related to their topic of interest.

One thing that I do like about the current mix of members is that there are fewer pot-stirrers and feather-rufflers right now. 3 years ago, there were a couple of members who felt the need (or so it seemed) to comment on every single thread, whether or not they had anything valuable to add to the discussion. One member in particular seemed to enjoy disagreeing with others just for the heck of it...maybe she had too much time on her hands...and she could turn any thread into a political, controversial, raging discussion. She no longer posts here, and we seem to have fewer trolls trying to stir the pot and cause bickering.

Just want to give you an update.

Because of your comments re. too many errant student threads in the General Nursing forum and our own observations, we have been investigating and discovered a glitch that affected the topic submission process in the General Student forum and a couple of other forums. This caused threads that were meant for other forums to get posted in General Nursing. That has been fixed now, so hopefully that will solve part of the problem.

I will say for better or worse (and perhaps I am one of those people are happy to see not post as much), I post less because I miss the app. :(

I liked your post because of your comment about missing the app not because I don't like you!

Okay, okay, Emergent!!! 😂😘 I have started replying to more posts in an effort to assure practicing nurses are contributing!!

I feel pressured to participate, not just lurk!! 😂

I do think there is a lack of posts r/t current working nurses..

I can't contribute right now, even though I'm a working RN, because I'd only complain! I love and hate my job at the same time, though I'm grateful to have it--it is a great position, but my rose colored lenses have come off!!
