allnurses has Become so Politicized

Published

Has anybody else been pretty shocked by how polarized many of the forums have gotten lately? 'Back in the good ole' days,' people would occasionally have differing view points and get into little spats, but on the whole we were all on the same page and working toward the same common goal (patient and nurse well-being).

These days it feels like at least 1/3 of the trending forums eventually devolve into tirades and personal attacks. Even when the discussions start out fairly civil, they sour pretty quickly.

I realize that highly-polarized, highly-sensationalized news is the nature of our political system these days. I'm also guessing that the polarization is felt more deeply on AN because the two most prominent, polarizing topics right now (covid and 'black lives' protests) are both interrelated with public health. Usually AN members are at least somewhat united on the aims and goals for public health, even if they don't agree with the means. Now, there's just so much bickering.

It's really disheartening. AN is usually my escape from the outside world, where I can commiserate with other nurses on topics that only we understand. Lately, it feels like the lighthearted, feel-good nature of AN has been poisoned by all of this hatred. I hope we get back to the way things were sooner rather than later. ?

This person had the nerve to come on my profile to attack me rather than do it out in the open. Just tells you how spineless she is.

That's how they do! I've had one do that to me in the past. Then when I muted her, random profiles started showing up just to report me or create conflict on any and everything I posted. Super petty! The ignore function is a beautiful thing.

If you think studies from Harvard, National Academy of Sciences, CDC or raw statistics from the FBI are fake news, I don't think anything posted will detract you from your militant dogma and zealotry. If you are going to continue post things totally bereft of any reasoning that's on you.

Your talking points are either based on deflections, red herring talking points or logical fallacies which have been reduced to personal insults or making assumptions which have not even been uttered. Notice how I address positions and delivery and nowhere do I make assumptions or extrapolate beyond that. Usually the person which has resorted these tactics lacks a cohesive argument. It's sad really, but interesting to see as people start to lose an argument they tend to break down.

I have bad news for you about the FBI...

If you have other govt sources which categorically list crime, please share. Conspiracy laden hack sites and left well propagandist drivel are not welcome.

Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) also confirms similarities. Burden of proof is on you.

Really?? Here is the video of the looting of the Target. Nearly everyone looting is black or are they all white alt-right wearing "black-face"?

Read the thread and get back to me. I've posted several links to support my point. You and this one video mean nothing. Did you miss the video of this same Target where the white lady, while pretending to not be able to walk, was stabbing black people coming out while leaving the white ones alone. She later stood up out of her wheelchair threatening black people with more violence. Or you missed that altogether to come with ONE video while ignoring the rest. Let me also add, it's been proven, even by feds and law enforcement nationwide, PLUS online social media sites like Twitter and facebook, that white supremacists start these riots and have even killed police, to perpetuate the stereotypes that black people and BLM are problematic.

Again, read the thread AND the links. I'm not doing this roundabout nonsense again.

Why do you think the government is neutral? Do you think the government always does the right thing? Heavily policing Black communities, red lining, higher penalties for poverty-associated crimes, etc, are all going to affect raw crime statistic data. Your interpretation of the data and the way that interpretation is without historical context is highly political.

Sooo you don't have a source or answer. Pretty sure the crimes of physical assault with a deadly WEAPON, MURDER and RAPE are going to command a police presence wherever. Instead of just parroting talking points just address the facts. Red herring deflections are not an explanation for VIOLENT crimes.

You want to talk about needless drug charges (War on drugs etc), theft, or even non-violent burglaries? Sure I can concede that within historical context. We can talk about that with your proposed lens but none of your examples explain away violent crimes.

Soft bigotry of low expectations...

And just like that, another thread has been hijacked to speak about bootleg stats and stereotypes furthering the racist agenda. Will y'all please stop going down the rabbit hole of endless nonsense? This is the ploy in almost every thread as if it's to purposely block any meaningful conversation. Ignoring these posters does nothing if they systematically engage everyone else who doesn't have them blocked in their BS circlejerks. ?

Closing your eyes and plugging your ears when hearing inconvenient data does not change the fact that it exists. Sorry about that. Not everyone is lemming who can be emotionally railroaded to bend the knee to zealotry and fanaticism.

Some of us are done chasing his nonsense. We can just talk about the topic and ignore the ploy.

Yes, yes retreat to the echo chamber or bat cave. Whatever you want to call it.

NurseBlaq has refuted this point time and time again with facts. You pulling this one video to make a racist point reflects poorly on you.

It is easier said than done, I agree. I would never suggest it is easy.

It requires self discipline. As another person pointed out, you can't change anyone's minds if they are determined not to listen and all they do is talk. All it amounts to is bickering.

I have better things to do.
