Hmmmmmmmm..........for some reason, the possibility of experiencing an "oily discharge" or "anal seepage" doesn't do much for me, so I'd have to say NO to Alli. Yeeecccccccccchhhhhhhh.
Lord help!! I can't stop laughing at this one!!!:lol2:

Ummm, oh geez where to start. I, up until about 3 years ago, was not overweight. I ate whatever and I was very active.

In the past 3 years I have taken on added stress (caring for ailing family and nursing school), began to snack and increase portion sizes, and am less active than I used to be.

Those are the reasons many people are overweight, as I am now and have been for 3 years. My personal issue with taking "MIRACLE PILLS" is what the heck is gonna happen when you stop taking them? I will tell you....because it happens to a lot of people....they gain their weight back and usually more than they weighed before taking diet pills.

It is hard to change eating habits, I know because I am eating CHeetoh's right this second, KNOWING I should be eating an apple or fruit. That would involve washing, peeling, and coring said apple when I can much more easily open my cheesy delights.

What I am saying is I looked at Alli and ALL its greasy, oily, dischargy, ooopsy poopsy pants, having to carry extra clothes around, loosy goosey stool, stomach crampy side effects......Which one of those is worse I don't know..... I NEED to change how I eat and exercise...If I do that I WILL lose weight. If I want anything bad enough I will do it. I am making it through nursing school......surely as a Health care professional I can motivate myself to wash, peel and core my way to a healthy and happy body size.

Thank you and good night..................

Those pills are all garbage!!!!

What happened to old fashioned EXERCISE and EATING IN MODERATION????

Leave it to us americans to think we can sit on our rumps, take a pill, and loose weight!

Sorry just a vent that I am sure I will get flamed for.

As will I because I agree with you.

And I am definitely overweight.

We can talk about how hard it is, but in the end, unless you want to use meds for the rest of your life, it involves changing behavior. As such, why spend big bucks on a pill?

I hope everyone is listening to themselves....."in the past...I bought this or that"......bottom line......put down the fork and get off your butt and exercise. I do apologize for the bluntness but what goes in your mouth goes to your butt!!!! Less calories, more cardio and your on your way. You just have to have faith in yourself. I got tired of wasting money decided to take one workout at a time and make my workouts count. Not easy but the results are sooooooooooo much better!! Stop wasting money! Exercise alone will make you feel better

Not to be little miss mary sunshine here...but,

For the same amount of money over time, I hired a wonderful personal trainer who has taught me how to properly exercise for my body's needs, my current age/wt...etc...and guess what???

I have not dieted AT ALL.....what I have done is write down what I eat....and having to keep a food diary and show it to her has not only kept me honest, but it keeps me from wanting to cheat too often....I mean...what's the point of working off 300 cals. on a treadmill if you eat 1000 cals. in pizza after you get home???

So, my eating habits have improved ALOT....more fruit...vegs...and a frequent protient snack or shake....I eat about every three or four hours....something....so I don't get hungry....AND GUESS WHAT??

I HAVE LOST 10 POUNDS IN A MONTH'S TIME.... I have dropped one pants size....and I feel GOOD!!

It's not so bad to go to a gym, and lift some weights....do some cardio....do those awful evil lunges and squats....because I found out that I was exercising wrong....no core training....and now...my metabolism is kicking into high gear...which means....as long as I exercise....I don't put the pounds back on....

Your body will respond if you do the right thing....

That is awesome!! Keep up the great work! You hit it right on the head, with a little hard work and just becoming aware of what you are eating your body image will change along with your mindset of how you feel! Congrats to you!!!!!!!

I'm glad this regime is working so well for you! However, I feel this is a bit of an oversimplification. Unless you have dealt with extreme overweight with contributing medical conditions and comorbidities, you really cannot judge those who have to resort to other methods to try to control weight and improve health.

Not so much in your post, but in others in the same vein, I definitely detect a hint of gloating superiority.

How about a little empathy, support and encouragement for those who continue to struggle with this issue, no matter how they choose to address it.

In my previous life, (before the RN) I was a personal trainer.

I think it can be very easy if you are a fairly (or really) in shape individual to talk about how all people need to do to control their weight is to get off their butts and work out. But I really do think that oversimplifies things a lot.

Extreme weight causes a ton of wear and tear on joints, etc. Not knowing how to exercise properly, or even pushing oneself too hard (you remember "feel the burn"?) can cause serious, and sometimes permanent damage, which would then impede a person's way to earn a living.

Eating healthy foods and exercising is a great and lasting solution, it just isn't always as easy as it may seem.

Believe me, I'm a health nut and I KNOW about working out, but I still put on 25 pounds in nursing school, (and lost it after I started running my butt off as an RN on a busy unit) but there are times (like this week, for instance) that I look at my fruit, my granola, my nuts, my yogurt. . . . . . . . . .and leave it at home and swing through taco bell on the way to work.

And seriously, after a really rotten night at work, I would WAY have chili cheese tater tots from Sonic than bran flakes.

(I'll admit it, I may not be the best role model!)

And when you are juggling the stresses of work, family, etc. Sometimes it is all you can do to get through your shift and other mandatory obligations. Sometimes there really aren't enough hours in the day to accomplish a gym visit. And it is really hard to exercise at home when you have small kids around. (They think it's PLAYTIME!!!!)

That said, I'm all for parking on the top of the parking garage so I have 5 flights of stairs to navigate in the morning.

And in spite of my good intentions, after a rotten night, I have DEFINITELY been known to take the elevator!

I have been on alli since end of june, I have lost 15 lbs. I would have lost more but I have gone on vacation and out of town for a couple of weeks.. it makes it rather difficult to want to eat low fat.

If you stick to the alli plan, you don't get oily farts or need to change your pants. I haven't had any problems.

Nobody is gloating they feel good about their results. People usually result in "other" measures because it is easy but yet if fails time and time again. Usually people that tend to eat right and exercise are the ones who have tried everything and when it comes down to it just taking 1 day at a time and 1 meal at a time they see results. It's the commitment that gets results. Support, empathy? That is exactly what I give, but supporting a pill....no.....a pill won't make you feel good about yourself, but getting out there and putting in the hard work will. I have seen it too many times with women and men of all sizes.

if there was truth in advertising in the otc pharm industry, alli would be called....

oily.....

hard as it is to just have a reasonable diet, healthy moderate quantities, plenty of fluids and some exercise every so once in a while, it is a lot easier than orlistat.

took it for about a week several years ago. followed the diet recommendations. still got the diarrhea, but it was so irritating that it was months before my "delicate tissues" stopped itching and burning.

i'll stay fat, thank you.

Nope... can't afford to spend any time in the bathroom at work. Too much to do. I do better on Weight Watchers.
