Air Force nursing FY2021

Published

Hello all,

I have looked all over this site in hopes of finding others that are getting their packets ready and are applying to the Air Force this fall. I have not found any recent threads on this.

I am applying for an ER spot. I have been a RN for 7 years and work in a Level II trauma emergency center. I have my MSN-Administrative Leadership and TCRN. Is there anyone out there that is also getting their packets ready for October boards? My recruiter told me that because of COVID everything has been pushed back and that boards will meet in October this year. He also told me that I would be going to MEPS and doing my medical in the next 3 weeks.

I have had both doses at this point! It makes me feel better knowing I have a little bit of protection going halfway across the world. However, the 2nd dose was a doozy and hit me really hard. I am happy that I was able to get it when I did and not so close to training! I had fever/chills/body aches for the first 24 hours but had crazy exhaustion and headaches for 2 weeks afterwards

@djmatte thanks and I’m fully prepared to embrace the suck. I know it’ll be completely different than what I’m used to since I’m not prior service.
I have had both doses. I’m hopeful that I may be a little more protected. Fortunately I didn’t have any reactions to either dose.

Glad to hear. I heard the second dose is a little rough. Which one did you get?

Ugh, sorry to hear that, but glad you’re vaccinated!

Both of mine with Pfizer. Sore arm was my only complaint for both.

Mine were also Pfizer ?

A bit off topic, but pertinent given the discussion.  Anyone not there yet considering getting their covid vaccination?  Our primary care clinic is JUST getting access to ours in Michigan.  Considering getting it, but both I and the recruiter are unsure if it is encouraged or discouraged prior to shipping.  Thoughts here?

There is a nurse here in my flight, she got the vaccine before she came. As long as you can get both doses beforehand they just can't give you the second one.

She was here in August for OTS and her roommate got Covid. They put her in quarantine for a few days and then decided to send her and about others who were exposed home. Although they have made changes so that doesn't happen anymore.

I finally got an assignment and OTS dates! Going to Langley AFB and in the 21-04 class! Sooo excited!

Good to hear.  Recruiter texted me today while on a call.  My previous plan for NC fell off due to the SG delay.  So 3 assignments are on the docket. No place we planned, but not entirely bad options.

What are your options now?

Lackland, Davis Monthan, and Beale.

@Trigirl80 congrats! It's exciting to finally get some more info!!

@djmatte for what it's worth, I know Beale is a tiny base and Lackland is a big base (you may already know that but just in case). IDK anything about the 3rd one LOL. Good luck in your choice!

To you folks suffering through COVID at OTS, that sucks and I'm sorry ya'll have to deal with all that. Prayers for speedy recoveries and continuing wellness so you can soak up all they have to teach you and you can get on with your military careers soon!!
