Hello all,
I have looked all over this site in hopes of finding others that are getting their packets ready and are applying to the Air Force this fall. I have not found any recent threads on this.
I am applying for an ER spot. I have been a RN for 7 years and work in a Level II trauma emergency center. I have my MSN-Administrative Leadership and TCRN. Is there anyone out there that is also getting their packets ready for October boards? My recruiter told me that because of COVID everything has been pushed back and that boards will meet in October this year. He also told me that I would be going to MEPS and doing my medical in the next 3 weeks.
I left my job a week before the date I had to start OTS. There will be online modules they’ll tell you be required to complete before arrival so I did those during that time. Other people showed up having not completed any of them but had time to complete them during our initial quarantine phase. Not sure how that works now though
Hi all,
I might be in a wrong post but if anyone has an answer on my inquiry regarding my Air force application that would really be helpful.
I applied the Air force as FNP and my application process started July 2021. Documents, Transcripts, Medical report for my scars (accident when I was in my teens). I had MEPS on September 2021 and was interviewed by a Col. (I think she was a nurse manager, not an APRN) on December 2021. After the interview my new recruiter told me to wait for next fiscal year since the positions have been filled. Anyone has a clue on NP's application processing time?
Thank you so much, I'm glad I found this site to help me figure out some answers.

The timeline can vary. You should have two interviews. A nursing manager and an APRN head. If the spots are filled for the year, the next boards probably won’t occur until on or near next October. That doesn’t mean things can’t or won’t open in the mean time. So it’s important to stay engaged with your recruiter to ensure things haven’t changed. It took me almost a year and a half to get to board and that was dealing with a less than stellar recruiter who staged his feet on to a s-hot recruiter who got me to board in about a month. So sometimes it comes down to stars aligning to make things happen. Keep at it though. It’s worth the wait.
Yea. I hear you. On the next board, do you think I still have to start the interview again with the Col.? Or, they will just continue the process where I left?
Also, I'm planning to join a specialty clinic (Transplant team NP) will it be a problem for next board selection if I leave my primary care NP role?

I will answer your question but you are off topic. I am originally from the Philippines. I have been a member of allnurses.com since I started my Nursing career, I find this website very helpful.

Hi. I received an email again from the Col. that interviewed me last December. She was setting up a zoom call interview. Do you think she just accidentally sent me a request or will she wants to interview me for the second time?
I immediately emailed her back but I am still waiting for her reply.

I’m just now seeing this. Hard to say on what the circumstances was. Hopefully it was fruitful!
6 years is standard from Captain (O-3) to Major (O-4). Nurses in the reserves usually fill Major billets (meaning they are all funded for up to that rank), so it is not very challenging to get promoted. I have personally not heard of any reserves Air Force nurse ever getting passed over for Major. When I was active duty I did see it a few times, but promotion is more competitive there. Almost always there's a good reason for not getting promoted. It's either not getting SOS done, failing PT tests, or some disciplinary action.
I'm not 100% sure, but my understanding is that technically PME (such as SOS, ACSC, and Air War College) is not strictly required. However, it definitely puts you at a disadvantage.

Bummer. I’m checking in with my recruiter to see if he’s heard anything. Thanks for the info!
