Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US

As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.

New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.

NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.

NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."

The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.

Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

Hope that this helps................ :balloons:

Most importantly, NY will issue you the license without a Social Security Number.

The exam permit is the easiest of the CGFNS things. The thing is to get all of your information to them. I prefer that they physically get it in their hands, on-line files do and can get deleted. Remember that.

hi, ms.suzanne...it's me again...i have just sent my NY BON and CGFNS CVS forms to my sister in Connecticut...she'll be the one to send it to the proper authorities cause she's gona be paying for it :chuckle . Anyway, now that i've sent it I thought I'll finally have some peace of mind until I bumped into another discussion site where they keep on saying that New Mexico is faster than NY...is it true? Should I tell my sister to put my papers on hold (assuming she hasn't paid for it yet) and apply to New Mexico instead? Now, I'm more confused than I was before. Thus, i don't think I'll be practicing in either of these states( NY or NM), since my sister works at a hospital in CT, I guess I'll be working there too. Where do you think should I have my initial license processed? HELP!!!

Hi Suzzane! Your threads are interesting.... most if not all our plans are based on your threads. You have been a great help. Anyway, I still do need your help though. :uhoh21:

Here are our (with my friends) plans:

Plan A

1. Apply in Vermont BON for NCLEX-RN (heresays tell us that this is so far the quickest state to issue ATT...)

2. Take IELTS by Sept.

3. IF approved by Vermont, take nclex-RN in Hongkong.

Plan B

1. Apply for CES (CGFNS)

2. If approved, Apply in Nevada BON

3. Apply for visa screen

4. Take Ielts

5. Take NCLEX in Hongkong (assuming all requirements approved and ATT is already given)

Plan C

1. Apply to NY BON

2. Apply for CVS-NY at CGFNS

3. Apply for VisaScreen

*1,2,3 are done at the same time

4. Take IELTS

5. Take NCLEX in Hongkong (assuming all requirements approved and ATT is already given)

What do you think is the best plan?

Which one is quickest for us to be able to work in US?

If we go for Vermont and passed, will we be able to apply for reciprocity in other state even without having to work there?

Is Nevada okay for initial Licensing?

If we pass NY NCLEX do we have to work there or can we apply for reciprocity right then and there as we receive our license?

I have a tourist visa, where do you suggest I take the NCLEX, in hongkong or in US?

By the way, we are recent board passers and still don't have the license number with us. Is it possible that we can apply to all of these even without the license number yet?

I'm sorry if I have bombarded you with so much question. Its just that we are on a crossroad right now and don't know what to do. Our Plans keeps on changing. :crying2: Please do enlighten us. Thanks!

:)

It doesn't matter at all who is the fastest with giving the ATT, you still will need to go thru the Visa Screen Certificate, and then if you are wanting to endorse to another state, you need to add that time in, so you are not saving yourself anytime at all in my opinion. My preference is still NY..........

Reciprocity is not the word to use, but endorsement. Reciprocity actually no longer exists. It was used for Canadian nurses in some states that accepted the Canadian nursing board and they could get a US license without actually taking NCLEX , but no more, everyone is now required to take NCLEX.

You can endorse to almost any other state once you get your US license in one state.

You still have to go thru Visa Screen Certificate thru CGFNS. New Mexico still requires the CES. All times are dependent upon how quickly your nursing school gets transcripts in and how quickly your nursing board submits its documetation. Those times don't change..............

I still stand by NY, you are free to do whatever you want. :)

I use user name and password too :) And I'm still 'ready for review'

I am in London Uk and sent my Documents to CGFNS. When I checked online nearly 3 weeks now they are still saying I am ready for review too. I was wondering how long you have been waiting for coz I keep checking almost everyday to no avail. There is no change in my status. I want to register with the NY BON. Is there any way to speed them up or I just have to wait?

And are you also doing the registration via NY BON?

Where in Wales are you? You can send me a praivate email. Have you been reviewing for long? All the best.

I would definitely go ahead and register with NY. You should have done that at the same time that you submitted for the CVS. You could have done everyhting at the same time. The only thing that you can't do is get a date for the NCLEX exam until you get approval from NY and pay for the exam.

Hi Suzanne,

Just a quick question how long does it take to endorse the nursing licence? Mine is a New Mexico one and I am going to work in AZ as you know. Just curious.

thanks

Thanks Anna,

I am starting to make plans slowly and carefully so am nervous in case anything should go wrong now. Dont want any hold ups. priced up the cats and it will cost well over £1000 to get them out there. So having a thinking time over that-plus can only take two or we wont be able to rent.

Hi Suzanne

Thanks for replying. I did send everything to CGFNS I did both applications and sent them registered. When I check the " order status" , the baffling thing is they have received my transcript and my verification from the Registration authorities(NMC) here in London. I even got confirmation from my college and NMC saying they had sent everything over 3wks ago.Its just the waiting coz it says my transcript has been looked at by a "Transcript specialist" for CGFNS but still there is no decision posted to say approved. And they never reply e-mails. How long do they usually take to look thru the documents though? I payed everything online the fees for CVS and for NY on the CGFNS site like 2 weeks before I sent the documents registered. The only thing that I was not aware of is that I need to send a photograph which I am going to do this week , would that delay things? But I thought that's for the visa screen.

Sorry for the long mail. I just needed someone to listen to my moaning. I actually feel better now. Good day and thanks for your time.
