Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US

As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.

New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.

NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.

NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."

The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.

Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

Hope that this helps................ :balloons:

Most importantly, NY will issue you the license without a Social Security Number.

Photographs can delay everything, becausee you do not have a complete file.

And have you actually sent the Form 1 to NY BON yet?

It takes more than a few weeks to get approval from CGFNS, usually a few months. They get thousands and thousands of documents on a daily basis.

You should figure minimum of six weeks to two months after they receive everything. Things do not happen overnight with them, that is why I tell everyone to submit everyhting right in the beginning.

Even if you were to apply to California for licensure, it is minimum of at least four months before you would get aproval to sit for the NCLEX exam, and they do not even go thru CGFNS. They do their own credentials evaluation and it is usually closer to six months thru there.

Just sit tight.....................as I keep saying, best things is life are worth waiting for.

california board of nursing does not entertain the idea of cgnfs/cvs for screening your application.the process is much simpler with them.

you apply on line send your paper work off to your school of nursing and you have to identify yourself via photo and finger prints.

i would recommend their service as everything is done in house(they asses your nursing school credentials) no need to trek over the mountains.beacuse

of the volume of applications it might take up to 5 months when you get your letter stating eligibility.

the plus about california board of nursing is their ATT is longer than most states 2years. the time frame between exams is 90days

when you pass your qualification is visa screened but the time is no longer than one month if you are in the que with the american embasy depending where you live.

i suggest you guys look up their web site ands make an informed choice

hope this helps

I beg to differ with you 100%. California may have shorter times but they will not issue a nursing license until you actually have a Social Security Number. This is a major thing if you decide that you want to work in another state, you cannot endorse until you actually have the lciense in hand.

And Caifornia does take at least four months for a foreign-trained grad to get an ATT, plus the biggest one is that you do not find out your results for up to a few weeks. California doesn't paricipate in early notification.

So you are splitting hairs here. You still have to go thru the Visa Screen process, so you are not actually saving any time at all.

Sorry but I stand by what I have recommended. Anyone is free to choose as they want. And I stated that as well.

a very intresting and bold assumption you make here:o.lets revise your 100 percent. i obtained my nclex rn in february of this year.yep i am a foreign trained graduate.

suffice to say i did not need a social security number prior to my licence being issued which i have in my possesion.i have not taken up residency in the us as yet.it takes two weeks for your ca license to be issued and can be verified via computer. the agony of having to know you passed whether it be two days to three weeks is of no statistical value.

some of my colleques who have passed the nclex here in london keep it for future reference.

we are not subject to section 11350.6 pertaining to professional tax and family support judments scrutiny prior to licenses being issued only applicable to us nationals.this is in relation to social security numbers

as for splitting hairs :imbaryour att does not take four weeks to arrive at your door. once you have been found eligible go online with pearson vue pay your 200 dollars and your att gets sent to you via email. print it,legally valid at the exam testing centre with supporting positive identification.we have to pay 150 dolllars for taking the exam in the uk

i guess we both stand on the side of sharing information

California does not issue a hard license if you do not have a social security number. It is required before they will issue you a hard license. You have a letter that states that you passed, not the physical license. It cannot be endorsed.

California, as well as most other states, will not issue you a license without a SSN#. They want to make sure that you have the legal documents to work in the US.

It isn't the ATT that takes the time, it is getting approval from CA to be able to qualify to even sit for the exam, nothing to do with the ATT. That is actually an instant thing once they have approval from the state. It is only doing double the work, you still have to submit everyhting to ICHP for the Visa Screen Certificate..........why have to duplicate everything?

There is not one recruiting agency in the US that recommends CA for initial licensure.

Right now, if you would try to endorse to another state, you cannot, as you do not have a number issued to you. That will not be done until you sumbiut the SSN# to CA BON. So, therefore you can get verification that you passed NCLEX for ICHP and the Visa Screen Certificate, but you are unable to endorse because you have not had a number assigned yet.

Photographs can delay everything, becausee you do not have a complete file.

Now Im confused. All the forms I downloaded from the CGFNS site I sent back to CGFNS except the two that stated I needed to forward to the College and one to the Registration authority here (NMC). I did not send anything to NY BON. I better check on that. I thought all the forms for CGFNS cover NY BON as well. So I will check the NY BON site and fill the form. I payed CGFNS US$600 do I need to send the NY BON somemore money. Now Im confused. Thanks for you time.

Based on experience, I recommend nurses to take initial licensure with vermont board of nursing. they process applications in three months time & would only ask an official copy of your transcript of records & photostat copy of foreign license. they issue licenses even without sss number. they wont require you to pay fees to cgfns. they won't require cgfns certificate. I think vermont is better than new york. because with new york, nurses still pay processing fee with another credentialing body. thanks.

It is your choice, but you still need to deal with CGFNS for the Visa Screen Certificate, and it is much easier for them to obtain the documents for most.

You then need to endorse to antoher state which can take another few months, so you really haven't saved anytime.

I'm sorry to butt in, but I honestly don't know where to place this question. Does Texas require the CGFNS exam? Some websites say that they do require the CGFNS exam and others say you just need the CES... *confused*

Texas requires the CES, not the exam.

Hi Suzanne,

I am a male nurse, i didn't have obstetrics lessons. Will it affect my eligibilty to sit for NCLEX? But i have some OBS experience whilst i was in the community. Thank you.
