As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.
New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.
NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.
NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."
The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.
Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.
Hope that this helps................ :balloons:
Most importantly, NY will issue you the license without a Social Security Number.
i advise doc that you better call them through their customer service line and ask for their supervisor or manager. for cheaper rates of international call, you try the yahoo beta messenger and call from there. it is really cheap and the line is very clear. you can buy a call card using ur credit card for as low as $10. just for clarification, im not trying to advertise. i was just amused that it is really cheaper than calling IDD from landlines, from mobile and even our local call cards cannot beat the rates. ive tried it a couple of times already. it was really cool! :roll just check it online for more info and instructions.goodluck, doc!
They told me they couldn't see my file, and asked for my CGFNS number.
They haven't given me one yet.
I'm wondering how I can see my file online, but they can't see it.
I tried downloading Yahoo Beta, but am having difficulty installing it. (I'm using an Athlon 64 CPU.) Thanks for the suggestion about calling them.
I was able to get my schools to send my Transcripts to Visa Screen, I hope that'll suffice.
But I definitely can not get a "Nurse Education Form" from my Med school.
I sent my paper application, but somebody on another forum suggested filling up the CGFNS online form too.How are you able to see your file on-line if you do not have a CGFNS number yet? You need that to log in to the site to review your files?
There's an online application form at the CGFNS website, and I filled it up. It asked for a username and password, that's how I access it.
In one of the replies to me, CGFNS said I didn't complete the application. When I completed the application, they mentioned that they couldn't see it.
Anyway, after completing the online application form, when I click on the CGFNS CP button and Go, I get to a page showing the Status of documents.
This is where it's asking for the Nursing Education Form from my Med School.
I only mentioned my MD on the Visa Screen application form, which I haven't completed because it registered the wrong Month of Completion for my Non-Professional Education. There's an Edit button, but I cannot edit it. This is why I did not click on the final Attestation button to finalize my online application. It seems CGFNS had integrated the databases for both certification programs, and assumed that Professional Education always means Nursing Education, hence automatically asking for a Nursing Education Form from a Med School.
It might be hard to imagine, maybe somebody here who've tried the process can chime in?
thanks silverdragon102 & safewaygreenbox.
it seems they've finally input my paper application into their computer.
what happened then is that they created another order, cancelled the online form i filled out, and then automatically filled out another form as re-applicant!
my order status page is getting messy.
photos "received but not reviewed."
other documents (validation) "waiting to be received."
and it's past their august 10 deadline already. from the fedex tracking number given by my nursing school though, the documents should have been delivered a few days before the deadline.
there is a lag in their updating their systems, likely due to the high volume of mails they get everyday.
i do hope i can sit for the november 9 cgfns exam.
i suggest that either you send in a paper application, or fill up the online form.
don't do both.
a caveat though, the online application can be a little confusing, and the edit button doesn't work. so if you make a mistake, you're gonna have to call up or write cgfns.
i think the paper application is best.
I am very, very against the on-line form for these reasons. Each application for them should be downloaded, then sent to them by courier service.
This is what I tell everyone, more proof to what I have been saying. By doing both, things are going to be a mess, and will stay that way for some time.

that's really true tho funny..but they received it for sure...its just the updating of their databases..

i still preferred the online application ( tho i have problems also:uhoh3: ...) ...i submitted my applications february 2003 (which so early because my preferred date of exam is september 10, 2003:chuckle )..mid august i was expecting to be rostered in september ..but then when i checked my status, iy says "received but not reviewed":uhoh21:......... my cousin who is in the usa called cgfns (according to her, it is very tiring.....its hard to get through a live customer service assistant)..so the woman she spoke with told her that my papers was overlooked ( because i was very early to file my applications :chuckle )...but then they still manage to include me in the september 10 exam...and the permit?..u can print it thru their website..no more long waits of snail mail....:)
gudluck!!!!:)

i can't assume they have my papers, because what if the papers got lost? (philippine postal service notorious.) then i'll be waiting for nothing. i think they should update their databases on a daily basis.
what's the use of an online database (designed to disseminate information almost instantaneously around the globe) if they do not update it???

oh man, now i'm worried.
i've heard about the "efficiency" of cgfns...
sigh.
you confirmed your sked 1 month before, eh?
i hope they confirm mine way before.
thanks, especially for the info re: printable exam permit.

Thanks Suzanne, for your advice!
My high school did not issue diplomas, and it will not be easy to get transcripts, plus this education was in french...
My nursing school was taught in English, and is excempted from a language test.
To avoid all the hassles with the CGFNS Evaluation, I was thinking of going maybe a different route. Please let me know what you think, and if it is feasible:
I would ask to be licensed in a state, such as Michigan, which, for Canadian trained nurses, does not require CES. That way I can do the NCLEX, get a US license, and then have it endorsed later by the state where I choose to work. The VISA Screen does not require high school diplomas as it is more than 15 years old, and I would not only save 230US for no CES, but also 2-3 month of time...
Is this way of doing this ok, or even possible?
What is your take?
