As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.
New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.
NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.
NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."
The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.
Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.
Hope that this helps................ :balloons:
Most importantly, NY will issue you the license without a Social Security Number.
You also still have to go thru the Visa Screen Certification as well as pass the English exams. The exam is given by Pearson-Vue, it has nothing to do with the Board of Nursing in any state. It is not easier if you take it in Guam or Saipan.
I do not agree with one bit of any of that. It is a national exam, not specific for each state. You can actually take the exam where ever you want, even if you are an American nurse. You are not required to take the exam in the state where you are going for initial licensure.
Hello again!
I just read in one of the forums, that when more than 10 years have passed since the High school diploma was issued, that it does not need to be submitted for the Visa Screen.
Does this also apply for the Credentials Evaluation (CES)?
Secondly, in the CGFNS CES forms it says: "List all professional healthcare educational institutions".
I do have another University degree, other than RN, in the health care field. Do I need to submit that too, and have it certified? The CGFNS is for Nurses only, or?
I am currently not licensed in the other field, just as a RN.
Thanks once again for your input.

Thanks again for clarifying Suzanne. I hope you won't get tired of my silly questions. :imbar I've learned a lot since i discovered this site. :)
Legal questions? I am not following. It is the same NCLEX where ever you are, there are not different ones for different states. It is a national exam.It isn't even administered byt the BONs, but a separate company that is contracted by them.
Not sure where they are getting their information, but it is all wrong. I stand by what I am saying, and I have never had anyone have difficulties with getting a license there. And the same documents can be used for the Visa Screen Certificate.
Your friend is free to do whatever he or she wants. Simple question, how many of those advisors over there actually have worked in the US or actually deal with US licensure?
For Everyone...
I completely agree. Suzanne has the most experience here in terms of professional nursing, working environment, going to the loops, holes and twists in this complicated world of foreign nursing working in the U.S.
She possesses the expertise and knowledge that she has earned over the years through hardwork and valuable dedication to her career as a nurse here in the U.S.
Just weigh the pro's and con's. You must decide personally which path to take and do not blame others or yourself if things not work out the way you/they want it to be. It is your choice. We just give the facts and then you decide.
Hurry up...The 50k visa promo might run out soon!:rotfl: As the Department of State states..."The offer is good while supply lasts!"
Goodluck

I am posting the question again, as I believe the original one "got lost" or overlooked...
Thanks.

my experience was for CES I had to provide a copy of eduction but was told for VS because it was over 10yrs it wasn't required.
I would say that any other university degrees you have other than RN should be documented. I am sure suzanne will give her answer soon :)
Any professional eduaction past high school should be documented, even if you attended a school for just one semester. Always better to have everything listed and let them choose, then leave one off and get in trouble over that later on. Even if it was in accounting or business, it needs to be listed.
If it is easy to get hold of your high school transcripts, then it is also the easiest just to send them, then there can be no delays on anything.
I have signed up with CGFNS (just in case) and Visa Screen.
For CGFNS CP, it asked for Nursing Education.
For Visa Screen, it asked for Professional Education (prepares you for healthcare, and for which you get a degree), for which I had entered my schools for my MD & RN degrees.
It seems that CGFNS had integrated their databases, and they assumed that all of your Professional Education is on Nursing.
My problem now is that CGFNS is asking for "NURSING EDUCATION FORM" from my medical school!
I have emailed CGFNS that I cannot possibly have a "NURSING EDUCATION FORM" from my medical school because I did not take up Nursing there.
So far no reply.
I understand that CGFNS may be inundated with letters everyday, but I don't think it's OK for them to defer my evaluation waiting for a non-existent document.
Anybody have an email address where I can get in touch with a real person?
Their contact page is very impersonal, very easy for them to ignore my emails.
Help please!
i advise doc that you better call them through their customer service line and ask for their supervisor or manager. for cheaper rates of international call, you try the yahoo beta messenger and call from there. it is really cheap and the line is very clear. you can buy a call card using ur credit card for as low as $10. just for clarification, im not trying to advertise. i was just amused that it is really cheaper than calling IDD from landlines, from mobile and even our local call cards cannot beat the rates. ive tried it a couple of times already. it was really cool! :roll just check it online for more info and instructions.
goodluck, doc!

It is still a professional school, and in healthcare, so transcripts are required from there. They are going to need to be sent.
Even if you went to EMT school, emergency medical technician, and worked on a ambulance for five years before nursing school, that must be included as well.
The issue for you is your medical school, not CGFNS. Visa Screen requires the documentation, and without it, they are not going to give you the Certificate. They are only following the requirements of the US Government on this one.
You can always go to your school and have them give you a set of transcripts, an official copy in a sealed envelope and you mail it in yourself, if you are not going the route of NY. There are always ways to get things done.

Thank you very much suzanne for replying so quick to all my queries. Your an angel sent from heaven.
I don't know where they get those info. Most probably just hearsay.
They say that in NY there are more questions pertaining to legal/prof. issues and transcultural issues in CA. They even say that certain states are easier to pass such as in Saipan and Guam for instance. The state that they're actually suggesting is Nevada 'coz the ATT permit will be processed in just 1-2 mos. time. Now I know these things aren't true. Nevada requires an SS# before they issue the lic. # just like CA right? Thanks again Suzanne. :)
