ADN Fall 2011 Hopefuls!!!

Published

I wanted to start a thread for those of you who have or will apply to ADN programs for the Fall 2011 semester. I have started the process but I have completed my application yet. I am nervous and super stressed. Join this thread so we can vent together. Share our journeys into nursing school.

besides nursing, has anyone considered other areas of healthcare for their career?

Once in awhile, I'd have recurring thoughts of wanting to be a doctor. It was one of those childhood dreams I wanted to do, and because I have family members who are doctors. As time passed, I suppressed that feeling once I was exposed to the whole health care setting and see how much of an impact nursing has on the whole health system. But during the 2.5 year wait of actually getting into the nursing program, I managed to complete 3/4 of pre-med courses just to kill time while waiting. I guess the little kid in me of wanting to become a doctor never left :).

I had thought about becoming a physical therapist...but now they require a doctorate and their pay is only around 60k....not worth it at all!!!!

recently ive become really interested in becoming a surgical tech aka scrub nurse. i didnt know it but a lot of RN's dont scrub in the OR anymore..they circulate. Id love to be a tech and be "on the front line" so to speak! the pay is less than a RN...but the experience might make up for the pay loss and I could always go and get my RN a little later and get back in the OR. decisions decisions... i just think it sounds really interesting...even more so than being a CNM.

Specializes in Student.

I have been in healthcare since I was 14.

My first job at 14 was for a surgeon - he wanted to pay for Med School for me - but with the infinite wisdom of an 18 year old, I said No, I was ready for a break after High School.

Then I promptly went to X-Ray School - and did that for too many years..... Taught, Supervisor, and the last was Digital Mammo and Breast Oncology. Working a all types of Facilites- Office, Huge Hospitals, tiny local clinics for the underserved, teaching facilites, for profit chains - there is something to learn everywhere. Especially where it is least expected. I got to do so much, see so much, and learn, learn, learn.

I was always in school. wanting to do more, be more - finding that the greatest satisfaction, for me, comes from education - myself, others, patients, families. I love to teach, so who knows where I will end up after I get my RN.....

One of the most rewarding areas was in teaching patients that there are so many options for treatment out there. That you do have a vote in your own healthcare, and while it may not be easy, the systems are workable, if you make enough noise! If you believe strongly enough, never, never give up.

Congrats to everyone who got in. I still have about a month to wait before I hear anything  hopefully I will be joining the celebration soon.

Im kind of the same way..i find myself drawn to a lot of fields in healthcare...radiology, respiratory therapy, nursing.... I have looked into radiology/sonography a lot but there are not a lot of job openings in my area for either one...i wish there was because i think i would enjoy it.

If i make it into nursing i have a feeling I will try out lots of specialities instead of just staying on one floor my whole career.

well the schools that are around me require you to have the liscense already... the wait list is even longer for the universities.. ive thought about perhaps a PA they pay pretty well but not to sure... still thoughts on Med school.. but i figured id move up gradually

Aw bummer... well in the mean time finish pre-reqs for a PA program in case you want to do it. Wouldn't hurt =)

I just got a letter from my school, I could see Congratulations through the envelope.... It was for a $500 scholarship. Normally that would be very exciting. My heart stopped as I opened it very slowly. Oh well no news is good news so far. My school hasn't calculated all of the GPA's yet. Letters were mailed mid-April last year so I am not in panic mode just yet.

Specializes in Neuro, Geriatrics, Progressive Care.

We are in the same boat. I just stopped going to the mailbox, too depressing. Congrats on your scholarship. Scholarships are always good news, even if you are looking for even better news.

Thank you! :-)

With the releif of getting in I let my studying for Microbiology go to the way side this weekend and wound up not doing so hot on the final. I got an 89 Average in there.. :-( Oh well at least I will never have to take that again!! LOL I sure thought I had the A in the bag...

CONGRATS to all of you who got in!!!! :yeah::yeah:Hope you all succeed!

I'm still waiting...and waiting. We may hear in May some time...or not, because we were supposed to hear after April 1. Now they're saying May. I am really trying to distract myself and last week I was under so much stress from other things that I totally forgot about nursing school. I would like to skip those kind of distractions, though. I'd prefer a vacation in Hawaii......:lol2:
