I wanted to start a thread for those of you who have or will apply to ADN programs for the Fall 2011 semester. I have started the process but I have completed my application yet. I am nervous and super stressed. Join this thread so we can vent together. Share our journeys into nursing school.

Hi VannVann... I was accepted to start the ADN program Fall 2011 at my school. I'm super nervous. I will have all my non-nursing courses completed by the time I start the nursing program. This semester I'm taking A&PII w/lab, O-chem II w/lab, Human Growth & Development, Intro to Gerontology. Spring semester, I am taking Microbiology w/lab and college comp II. What classes are you taking right now or have to take still?

Congrats on getting into nursing school. I know that's alot off your mind. You really have a full schedule but I know you can do it, just stay focused. This semester I am taking a fine arts, developmental psychology and nursing assistant I (since I have to become a CNA before I even complete my application). Next semester I will be taking A&P I and if I get into the nursing school, I will take my last two classes during the summer (A&P II and Micro). That's going to be tough but worth it. How did your school pick through applicants? Point System, GPA?

I just completed my applications. Taking Micro and Soc right now. Stressed, but happy I'm finally at this point.

Congrats on completing your application. I know its hard but it will be all worth it when you see that acceptance letter in the mail :-) Keep us posted on your status.

At my school, it's first come, first serve. To apply and get on the waitlist... we only need a 3.0 gpa with 12 credits or more. Get a C or better in intro to a&p, intro to chem, intro to algebra (or test out). Get atleast a 60 percentile on the pax test. While on the waitlist, we can take any of the non-nursing courses and keep a 2.5 gpa. The waitlist is about 2 years because they only accept 60 students every fall. Applicants are always moved up the list because students are dropping or transfering to a new school.

How is the application process through your school?

My school only accepts 60 people during the fall semester. The point system is used. You get points for all the pre-reqs you take associated with the grade and you get points for your TEAS score. You have to be active on the Nurses Aide Registry. And that's how they pick candidates.

Hi, I'm a fall 2011 hopeful too (of course). I haven't applied yet, we must have applications in by June. We are on a point system where most of the points come from your TEAS V score and your grades in the science classes such as A&P, and Micro. I'm taking A&P 1 right now, (and also Chemistry, but that's for later when I do a bridge to BSN). I have a B in anatomy so far. All the studying for two science classes and all the memorization is killing me. Never the less, I'm planning on taking A&P 2 and microbiology next semester to rack up maximum points (if I can pull off an A or at least B's in both). I've already taken the teas once and made an 82% adjusted score, I'm planning on taking it again this spring. I should do better then since I will have some science under my belt. I am constantly stressed about the "will I get in?" question. *sigh*. Encouragment is always welcome ( and usually needed). Thanks for starting this thread.

If I hear "it will work out, you'll get in not problem" one more time??? I applied to different programs 96-162 students per year depending on the program. Neither one have a waiting list, both applications are due by february, one is a rolling admission, one is ranking. Both are making me wait.... lol

I know people try to be reassuring and encouraging but .... I always think to my self "how do you know it will work out?". It certainly didn't for 550 people who were rejected last year at my school. Even if you know your a pretty good applicant that's a lot of stress and pressure and until you get that letter all you can do is wait and worry. I won't say that dreaded phrase. :D How about " hang in there and Good Luck!".

PS sometimes when friends and family say that dreaded phrase to me I feel even worse. I think oh no! What if I don't when everyone thinks that I will? It will be so embarrassing!

meghanTK and VannVann2008... I'm pretty sure you will have enough points to get in fall 2011. Just keep taking those classes and use all the resources you can. I find that youtube videos help me understand certain physiology for a&P much better than the textbooks.

studentnurseCT... I know the wait for the acceptance letter is killing you. Good luck to you! I hope you get accepted to all the programs you applied to so you can choose which one you want to go to.

The key to getting through this process is to KNOW that you are a good candidate. You did the best you can and you have to have confidence in yourself. And if we don't make it this time, so what, there are thousands of schools that we can apply for. We all just need to hope for the best
